The Infirmary Report: Preseason Week 3

by Jason Allwine, August 30, 2022

The worst part of our beloved game is the frequency of injuries. It’s an unfortunate byproduct of such a fast-paced, contact-heavy sport. It’s something that is important to remember as we approach the first full week of the preseason. Luckily for the NFL players, they have access to some of the best doctors in the world and can usually return to form at least by the next season. Unfortunately for us fantasy players, it’s not always easy to know when a player will get hurt. To another degree, sometimes your roster isn’t big enough to plan ahead for an injury. This series, the Infirmary Report, will give you advice on the injuries that have happened every week during the season. Without further ado, here are the injuries from last week.

In an earlier article, we set out to understand the structural differences between ADP in Underdog best ball drafts and FFWC high stakes drafts. Today, we take the next step and look at players whose ADPs differ from these trends and create opportunities for arbitrage between the two sites.

Why Liverpool NEED Diogo Jota right now?

by Pranav Mohan, August 27, 2022

Diogo Jota is more of a necessity for Liverpool than he was ever before. Even though Liverpool have signed Darwin Núñez, a prolific and efficient striker, it will be tough for the 23-year-old Uruguayan international to fill the void left by Sadio Mané’s departure.

Player Velocity: More Meta-Trends for One-QB Leagues

by Joel Ybarra, August 27, 2022

What we define as “player velocity” in this study is how much a player’s ADP changed from one season to the next. In 2021, Jonathan Taylor reached high speed. Fantasy gamers were selecting him in round three his rookie season (2020). He then shot up into the late first round in 2021 drafts. Taylor finished RB1 in half-PPR points per game (minimum twelve games played) in 2021.

BEST BALL STRATEGY GUIDE PART 3: LINEUP BUILDING FOR THE HOME STRETCH

by Jakob Sanderson, August 26, 2022

However, today we want to increase our odds of that winning combination beyond leaving it to random chance. Just as we know Bob and Sandy are better apart than together, we can increase our odds by avoiding certain combinations and prioritizing others. In the final part of my best ball strategy series, we talk roster constructions. As best ball summer reaches its close, I will discuss introductory elements of construction which also apply to your managed leagues, as well as include notes on how to take advantage of your “late” draft time in best ball.

Is Diontae Johnson This Year’s Allen Robinson?

by Shervon Fakhimi, August 24, 2022

Johnson reminds me a lot of Allen Robinson from a year ago. Remember when Andy Dalton and rookie Justin Fields were the best quarterbacks Robinson was going to play with? Mitchell Trubisky, ironically now teammates with Johnson, was hardly a world beater with the Bears, but he and Robinson definitely had a healthy connection.

Regression Candidates for 2022

by Matty Kiwoom, August 23, 2022

Let’s talk about some regression candidates for 2022 from each position in fantasy football. Not all regression is negative. Analytical metrics can call for positive regression aka the regression fantasy managers want to see from their players. Okay, I have mentioned the word ‘regression’ enough (just did it again). Let’s check out some candidates that could be affected for the 2022 season.

Intro to the 2023 NFL Draft Class: Tight End

by Cody Carpentier, August 22, 2022

The most interesting prospect in the 2023 NFL Draft Class, Arik Gilbert received the no.1 rating by a TE recruit of all time per 247 sports. Gilbert started his college career at LSU in 2020 at less than 245 lbs, where he finished with 35 receptions for 368 yards and 2 touchdowns. After the turmoil and off-field issues, Gilbert left the program and was away from football in 2021. During the 2021 season, Georgia won a National Championship and found a unit at Tight End in freshman Brock Bowers who compiled almost 900 yards. Entering the 2022 College Football season, the duo of Arik Gilbert and Brock Bowers looks to be the best since Noah Fant and T.J. Hockenson at Iowa. Gilbert has the athleticism and upside to overtake Michael Mayer as the top tight end in the 2023 NFL Draft Class, but it will take complete dedication and drive from Gilbert in 2022. On the field, there are few limitations – Gilbert’s immediate burst is a question, but once he is on the move, as a YAC monster, Gilbert is unstoppable when he wants to be.
