Well, it’s been an exciting three days. The draft has come and gone, and franchises have changed their 2025 outlook. Many teams did a solid job of addressing needs and finding solid value in this year’s draft. Below are my grades for the 2025 NFL Draft in alphabetical order.

Arizona Cardinals | B+

I liked Arizona’s draft. They drafted DT Walter Nolin at 1.16 and then got great value at 2.15 by selecting CB Will Johnson, who was projected as a first-rounder. The Cardinals focused on building up the defensive side of the football. Will Johnson will immediately come in and should start, and Nolin should be able to make an impact very early on. The Cardinals are a team on the rise in the NFC West.

Atlanta Falcons | A-

The Falcons were also on a mission to improve the defensive side of the football. I loved that they aggressively drafted two impactful players, LB Jalon Walker and Edge James Pearce Jr,  but I did not like trading away a future first-round pick. I understand the Falcons are pushing in their chips to win now, but a future first in the NFL is like gold. Atlanta also found great value in the third round by drafting safety Xavier Watts out of Notre Dame. The Falcons are on their way in the NFC South.

Baltimore Ravens | A

When do the Ravens ever have a bad draft? Baltimore selected S Malaki Starks to pair with Kyle Hamilton and form a dynamite duo. Of course, they also draft a projected first-rounder in the second. Edge Mike Green, who has a high motor and is consistently in the backfield disrupting plays. I also like the WR selection in LaJohntay Wester, a sneaky speedster out of Colorado. The Ravens are going to be a problem again in the AFC.

Buffalo Bills | C

Buffalo had a decent but not exciting draft. They selected speedy CB Maxwell Hairston in the 1st round. Paired with Tre’Davious White, Buffalo has a solid CB duo. After a disappointing season from their first-round pick last year, I thought they needed to add more depth at the WR position. Buffalo will be fine as long as Josh Allen is the quarterback. Still, a few wide receivers were available to pair with Keon Coleman, which could have made an already explosive offense even more explosive. Buffalo is still at the top of the class in the AFC East.

Carolina Panthers | B+

I love that Carolina drafted the best wide receiver in this year’s draft, Tetairoa McMillan. The Panthers are all in on providing QB Bryce Young with all the help he needs to succeed. After a rough first year and sitting behind veteran QB Andy Dalton, Young has stepped into his own in the middle of 2024. Carolina is building something special, and this year’s draft added some solid pieces to a young and upcoming roster. Tampa Bay and Atlanta better not sleep on Carolina in 2025.

Chicago Bears | A

Like Carolina, Chicago is also building around its young franchise QB Caleb Williams. The Bears selected TE Coloston Loveland and WR Luther Burden III in the first two rounds.

Caleb Williams didn’t match the hype of the number one overall pick with his on-field play last year, so the Bears will surround him with all the help he needs. The Bears also nabbed DT Shemar Turner in the second round to add much-needed depth on their defensive line. Chicago is looking to make an impact in the NFC North, and in 2025, it seems like they may very well do so.

Cincinnati Bengals | B+

Cincinnati knew it needed to address its defense after the 2024 season. The Bengals selected Edge Shemar Stewart with their first-round pick. Stewart will start opposite Trey Hendrickson. Stewart and Hendrickson should be an explosive duo and provide much-needed quarterback pressure to opposing teams. Taking Taj Brooks in the sixth round is a sneaky pick as well. After starter Chase Brown, the next RBs on the roster are Zack Moss and Samaje Perine. Brooks can move up the depth charts by showing out on special teams and seizing opportunities when given. The Bengals should have a much better 2025 than they did in 2024.

Cleveland Browns | A-

I liked what Cleveland did in this year’s draft. They went after players they thought could help them win games. Was it a roller coaster? Yes, it was, but they weren’t afraid to be bold. The Browns selected two running backs and quarterbacks: Quinshon Judkins, Dylan Sampson, Dillion Gabriel, and Shedeur Sanders. They know they have holes and will find the best fit for their team regardless. Judkins is going to have the opportunity to start immediately. The quarterback situation in Cleveland has always been bad, but now things will be interesting. The Browns selected Shedeur Sanders in the fifth round, with all the media centered on his draft stock while we watched him fall. I loved the aggressiveness of attempting to turn things around. Good or bad, eyes will be on Cleveland this season, and we will be waiting and watching what Sanders will do for the Browns.

Dallas Cowboys | C

Dallas had me desiring more from them and their draft. Drafting Tyler Booker was a solid pick. Jaydon Blue was also a great value; they need running back depth. Even after signing Jonathan Mingo in free agency, the Cowboys didn’t address the wide receiver position opposite CeeDee Lamb. It felt like the Cowboys didn’t want to make a splash but stay the course, much like last year, when they had opportunities to sign an RB. Safe is the word I would use to describe Dallas and their draft this year.

Denver Broncos | B-

After Bo Nix‘s outstanding rookie season, I figured head coach Sean Payton would want to get his franchise quarterback a stud WR. Yet Denver opted to go another route. The Broncos got a CB in Jahdae Barron from Texas and filled a need in the running back position by taking RJ Harvey out of UCF. When you have an opportunity to build around your young QB, you have to jump on it, and Denver played it safe. They better hope Nix can play like he did in 2024 and not take a step back.

Detroit Lions | D

Detroit doesn’t need much. They are an outstanding team, and this draft was not very attractive. Based on their big board, the Lions added depth and filled needs. Adding OG Tate Ratledge and Miles Frazier were solid additions. The Lions are good and will return in the playoffs in 2025. Is it crazy to say they didn’t need much in this year’s draft?

Green Bay Packers | C

It was obvious Green Bay wanted to improve its wide receiver room.

The Packers drafted Texas WR Matthew Golden in the first round and Savion Williams out of TCU in the third round. Their picks on day three were not very impressive. John Williams, the OT from Cincinnati, will need a lot of development, as will the other selections. Green Bay will still be solid for 2025, but they needed a little more in this draft, in my opinion.

Houston Texans | B+

Everyone knows Houston needs offensive line help. They addressed it a little in free agency and by selecting OT Aireontae Ersery in the second round. But you must remember the Texans hired a new offensive coordinator and offensive line coach. Nick Caserio has gotten the Texans this far, so folks should trust his process. I love the wide receivers Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel‘s selections out of Iowa State. Providing CJ Stroud with additional significant threats at the wide out position with an already elite Nico Collins should help Houston get over the hump. Houston should be the favorite in the AFC South again in 2025.

Indianapolis Colts | B

The Colts needed a tight end, and the Colts got a tight end. Indianapolis landed one of, if not the best, tight ends in the draft by selecting Tyler Warren out of Penn State. Anthony Richardson had a disastrous season as a rookie and had a decent core in Jonathan Taylor and Michael Pittman, but Richardson was missing a safety value. He has one now, so he should be able to get back on track for 2025. DJ Giddens and Riley Leonard were also solid value picks in the latter rounds of this year’s draft. The Colts could be a sneaky team to watch in 2025, but a lot depends on Anthony Richardson.

Jacksonville Jaguars | A

The aggressive Jaguars traded with the Cleveland Browns for the number two pick to grab the “unicorn of the draft” in WR/CB Travis Hunter. Jacksonville knows it has to get help for Trevor Lawrence, as time is running out on excuses for him. Being bold here and grabbing the best player in this draft is how you make it happen to turn a franchise around. I love the Bhayshul Tuten pick in the fourth round. Tuten provides speed and is very versatile in the backfield. Jacksonville is another team to watch in 2025 as they look to make it tougher for the Texans to win the AFC South.

Kansas City Chiefs | B

Kansas City selected need and depth in this draft. I like the value they found in wide receiver Jalen Royals in the fourth round. The 4.4 speedster is exactly what Mahomes needs to pair with another speedster in Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice. Josh Simmons is a nice addition at the tackle position. The Chiefs always have a way of finding solid pieces in the draft. They didn’t, however, address the safety position after Justin Reid left in free agency. The Chiefs do a good job of finding solid additions, but ultimately fell short in this area. KC will be back in the playoffs in 2025; they always do, but it will be interesting to see how they fare on defense this year.

Las Vegas Raiders | A-

Love what the Raiders did this year. In the first round, they selected the best running back in this year’s draft, Ashton Jeanty. But they also drafted a sneaky good WR in Jack Bech out of TCU.

Las Vegas appears to be doing what it can to help QB Geno Smith this season. Dont’e Thornton is another solid value pick at wide receiver. The 6-5 wide out ran a 4.3 at the combine and is freakishly athletic. The Raiders are a team that will be fun to watch in 2025, and they shouldn’t be slept on now with Pete Carroll running the show.

Los Angeles Chargers | B-

The Chargers desperately need a pass rusher. While they drafted RB Omarion Hampton in the first round, it wasn’t necessarily a significant need. Los Angeles just signed Najee Harris in the offseason. Addressing the WR room was needed, and the Chargers selected Tre Harris out of Ole Miss, who was a bit slow and of average height. I am not sold on Harris being anything other than a solid WR3 in the NFL. Los Angeles will still have a decent season in 2025, but they left a lot on the table, and while they did improve the offense a little, they did their defense no favors.

Los Angeles Rams | D+

The Rams did a solid job of finding a replacement for Tyler Higbee at the tight end position. They failed to take advantage of any star power in this draft. Rams were 10-7 last season and also signed Davante Adams in the offseason, but they did not address the defensive side of the ball as much as I would have liked from them. Jared Verse had a fantastic season last year, but the Rams didn’t build off of his success. Overall, they are not a bad team; they had only six picks to work with. They also did not have a first-round selection. Rams will have to start thinking about a Matthew Stafford replacement soon, and a wide out opposite of Puka Nacua, as Adams won’t be there forever either.

Miami Dolphins | B

Love that Miami selected Kenneth Grant 13th overall in the first round. Grant is a stud at the defensive tackle position. Dolphins found value later in the draft by choosing RB Ollie Gordon in the sixth round and QB Quinn Ewers in the seventh round. Miami did a good job of finding players to add to their depth. A WR would have been good to pick with Tyreke Hill’s uncertainty. Miami selecting Quinn Ewers was a smart pick, with all the injuries mounting up to Tua Tagovailoa. Ewers was an early favorite at the end of the 2023 season to be a first-round selection. Miami should bounce back in 2025 after a lackluster 2024.

Minnesota Vikings | D

Minnesota did a great job selecting OG Donovan Jackson, but there was not much to be excited about after that. The Vikings only had five picks in the draft this year. Protecting J.J. McCarthy is a high priority, but they just did not have a lot of draft capital to find other players to fill holes and add some depth. The Vikings should be good in 2025, hinging on McCarthy’s play at the quarterback position.

New England Patriots | A+

New England had a lot of draft capital, but they had a plan, and it was very apparent what that plan was. The Patriots wanted to build on the success QB Drake Maye had last season, and they did just that. Selecting OT Will Campbell to protect Drake Maye and then, in round two, selecting TreyVeyon Henderson at RB to add competition with Rhamondre Stevenson, New England is building on what they saw in 2024. Kyle Williams and Joshua Farmer were also excellent picks for the value at which they were selected. New England is a team that should turn heads in 2025. They will be better than what their 4-13 record says they were in 2024.

New Orleans Saints | C

The rebuild that the New Orleans Saints want to enter or not is happening with or without them wanting it. New Orleans selected OT Kelvin Banks with the 9th overall pick to help protect whoever starts at quarterback this season. Banks is a good pick, and the offensive line is starting to come together.

Everyone thought the Saints would select a QB in round 1, but they opted to take Tyler Shough in round 2, and most were shocked by this selection. Shough had an interesting career in college and was hurt for most of it. He eventually came into his own last year, but durability will be an issue. I had Shough as a top 40 pick this year, but that was due to how weak the QB class was and how bad teams have an itch to fix this position quickly. The Saints will have another rough year, but that’s okay because next year’s quarterback position class is much better. Brighter days are ahead for New Orleans, but it will have to be one more year of the dark days.

New York Giants | A

The Giants approached this draft like they had to make up for letting an All-Star running back go in free agency. Oh, wait, that did happen. Selecting Abdul Carter was the right move; he was one of the best players in this draft. Coming back later in the first round to grab their QB in Jaxson Dart is understandable after giving Daniel Jones a massive extension, which didn’t work out. You must also applaud New York for drafting RB Cam Skattebo to complement Tyrone Tracy. The Giants will be better than their 3-14 record suggests in 2024.

New York Jets | B

New York has a young core to build on, and in this draft, they didn’t need much. Selecting OT Armand Membou to protect new QB Justin Fields was a nice pickup. Adding former LSU TE Mason Taylor was also necessary for Fields. The Jets are all in on Fields after having Aaron Rodgers for the last two seasons. One position that they should have addressed a little more was at WR. Garrett Wilson is the WR1, but they desperately need a solid WR2, and fourth-round pick Arian Smith may not be the guy. Jets will be fun to watch this season, but another solid draft may be required before they reach their true potential.

Philadelphia Eagles | A

The rich get richer. Philadelphia added many solid depth pieces from this year’s draft. Selecting Jihaad Campbell in round one and S Andrew Mukuba in round two helped their defense, which was already strong from 2024. The Eagles’ draft capital was strong as well; they had ten picks in this year’s draft. This is why the Eagles consistently draft at the back of the draft. They identify solid depth pieces and build those players who have potential.

Pittsburgh Steelers | F

This one is an easy grade for me. Knowing you needed a starting QB and then selecting one in the sixth round is really unsettling. This league is a QB-driven league, and month after month, the Steelers seem fine with Mason Rudolph. I know this can’t be their starter going into week one, but time is running out, and the lack of urgency is concerning if  I am a Steelers fan. What good is trading for DK Metcalf if you don’t have a solid option at the QB position? And please don’t get excited if they end up signing Aaron Rodgers; he almost ruined the Jets organization. Plus, he’s 41 years old; he is not what he once was.

San Francisco 49ers | D

San Francisco’s selection of Mykel Williams was a nice addition, but the team’s performance was very lackluster after that. Having 11 draft picks and not selecting a replacement for George Kittle, who is 31 years old, is a miss, in my opinion. It felt as if the 9ers went after just depth and wasted significant draft capital on players who will mostly be second-stringers. The 9ers usually have a good track record, but this year was disappointing.

Seattle Seahawks | A

I love that the Seahawks splashed at the value at which they selected players.

OG Grey Zabel was needed. Jalen Milroe in the third round could be a potential steal if Sam Darnold doesn’t have more of that 2024 magic. WR Tory Horton and RB Damien Martine were great selections at their respective positions. Seattle is building back, and it won’t take long with a draft like this.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers | C

Tampa Bay was a little head-scratching in this year’s draft. I like Emeka Egbuka, but I don’t think the Buccaneers needed him. Defense is what I think the Bucs should have targeted in round one, but not only did they take one WR, they selected another in round seven. They did draft a CB in round 2, but CB Will Johnson fell out of the first round and was selected before the Bucs selected Benjamin Morrison. The Bucs should have traded up for Will Johnson. The Bucs are still positioned to take the NFC South, but they had better watch out for Atlanta and Carolina, as they are on their heels.

Tennessee Titans | C

I loved Cam Ward, the number one overall pick. It was disappointing to have nine picks and walk away with what they selected after Ward. Tennessee had opportunities to make an impact in this draft and change their franchise, but they decided to play it safe after Ward. They could have selected multiple WRs in this draft to help out their new quarterback, but they walked away with Chimere Dike in the fourth round and then Eric Ayomanor, who is the better of the two. The Tians left much to be desired, but the Ward pick makes up for it.

Washington Commanders | B

Loved the first two picks by Washington. Drafting OT Josh Conerly in the first round and CB Trey Amos in the second, the Commanders turned their franchise around in a matter of years. Having a solid free agency to add to this draft, one has to be thrilled with how Washington is attacking this roster for 2025. Commanders only had five picks in their draft, which is not a lot, but they didn’t need much. Commanders will be a team that could threaten the Eagles as the best team in the NFC.
