NFL Injury Report | Fantasy Football Week 6

by Jonathan Lange · Featured

There’s an old saying that death and taxes are the only two guarantees in life. I’d like to add injuries in football to that short list. We’re in Week 6 in the NFL, and the injury list continues to grow. Let’s look at the injury statuses of impact players before we lock in our lineups!

The Notable Injuries | Week 6

Jalen Hurts | QB, Philadelphia Eagles (OUT)

Jalen Hurts will be sidelined indefinitely after the Eagles announced he has a superficial blood clot in his calf. This is a much more serious situation than a typical sports-related injury, as a blood clot can lead to a sudden medical emergency. Tanner McKee will take over at quarterback, but it’s hard to imagine this Philadelphia offense performing better without Hurts. McKee is a low-end QB2 option.

Lamar Jackson | QB, Baltimore Ravens (OUT)

Lamar Jackson will miss another week with his ankle injury, which fits the initial estimate of one to two weeks. Tyler Huntley will be the starter for the Ravens, and he projects as a low-end QB1/high-end QB2 option for the week. Huntley finished last week with 28 fantasy points, but Cleveland is slightly tougher on defense than Atlanta.

Rashee Rice | WR, Kansas City Chiefs (OUT)

Rashee Rice hurt his hamstring in Week 4, but the Chiefs had a bye in Week 5, so there wasn’t much reported on the severity of the injury. Rice was unable to practice all week, and reporters have mentioned both Jalen Royals and rookie Cyrus Allen as replacements. Both are potential WR4 or flex options in deep leagues.

Jeremiyah Love | RB, Arizona Cardinals (OUT)

Jeremiyah Love will miss this week due to an ankle injury. This ankle injury is different from the one he sustained in the preseason, but the good news is that head coach Mike LaFleur has said there has been no discussion of putting Love on IR. Tyler Allgeier will step in as the lead back, and he profiles as a volume-based RB2 this Sunday.

Caleb Williams | QB, Chicago Bears (QUES)

Caleb Williams was able to get in two full practices this week, but he has not yet been cleared to play. This will be the big injury to monitor, because he still needs medical clearance. If he is unable to go, head coach Ben Johnson has not said who would start, but Chicago media reported that Tyson Bagent took snaps as the QB2 this week while Williams took the QB1 snaps. Keep an eye on this one through Sunday morning; it remains a fluid situation. If Williams starts, he’s going in my lineup in Superflex leagues.

Tyler Warren | TE, Indianapolis Colts (QUES)

Tyler Warren was a surprise addition to Friday’s injury report as a limited participant with a groin injury. Warren had a groin injury in the preseason but did not miss any time, and it’s unknown if this injury is related. Keep an eye on his status Sunday morning. If he is out, Josh Downs and Keenan Allen look like even stronger plays against a Titans defense that struggles to stop the pass.

A.J. Brown | WR, New England Patriots (QUES)

Saturday morning, it was reported that A.J. Brown is expected to be activated after missing time due to the high ankle sprain he suffered in Week 1. While there can be a small drop-off in fantasy point production coming off of this injury, Brown remains a special talent who belongs in lineups. I’m viewing him as a top-20 wide receiver for the week with the potential to finish inside the top 10.

RB Quick Hitters

Saquon Barkley | RB, Philadelphia Eagles (OUT)

Saquon Barkley remains out due to the hamstring injury he sustained in Week 4. With Will Shipley suffering a foot injury, the Eagles will lean on Dameon Pierce to carry the load. Pierce is a low-end RB2/high-end RB3 and can be counted on as a desperation FLEX play if needed.

Quinshon Judkins | RB, Cleveland Browns (QUES)

Quinshon Judkins is questionable after being limited to only one practice this week. He is likely to play, but keep an eye on his status. He was spotted in a walking boot last Sunday after the Browns’ loss but was seen without it later in the week. If active, Judkins is a low-end RB2 option who doesn’t inspire much confidence against a strong Ravens defense.

David Montgomery | RB, Houston Texans (OUT)

David Montgomery is out this week with a groin injury. He left the Week 5 game against the Titans in the first quarter and was unable to return. Woody Marks takes over as the lead back and will be a quality RB2 for fantasy teams that are in a pinch. But I would expect the Texans to mix it up and use Jawhar Jordan and Dare Ogunbowale to keep Marks fresh in Montgomery’s absence.

Rico Dowdle | RB, Pittsburgh Steelers (QUES)

Rico Dowdle finished the week with back-to-back full practices after dealing with a toe injury. Jaylen Warren should continue to operate as the lead back and take the majority of the snaps, but the Steelers can feel much more confident when Dowdle is out there giving Warren a break. Dowdle is an RB4 option and shouldn’t be started anywhere.

WR Quick Hitters

Ladd McConkey | WR, Los Angeles Chargers (ACTIVE)

Ladd McConkey carries no injury designation after dealing with foot and rib injuries over the past few weeks. Last week, he was active but didn’t even record a snap. While the injuries may not be gone, we can feel confident that he’ll actually see the field this week. The Chargers offense is still a mess, and McConkey is a low-end WR3, at best, while this team continues to work out its issues on offense.

Roman Wilson | WR, Pittsburgh Steelers (OUT)

Roman Wilson suffered a finger injury last week and will be out this week as he recovers. Germie Bernard takes over as the slot option in Pittsburgh, and he’s a sneaky flex option this weekend. You can also expect Pat Freiermuth to receive more targets while the Steelers are short on pass catchers.

Deebo Samuel | WR, San Francisco 49ers (OUT)

Deebo Samuel is expected to miss a few games with a hamstring injury and is out this week against the Commanders. The concentrated passing attack in San Francisco will continue to feature Mike Evans, George Kittle, and Christian McCaffrey, while Brandin Cooks is expected to take on a larger role.

D.J. Moore | WR, Buffalo Bills (QUES)

D.J. Moore was able to get a limited practice in on Friday, and he’s listed as questionable on the injury report. Keep an eye on his status over the weekend. If he’s active, it’s a strong matchup against an average pass defense. If he is unable to go, Keon Coleman is a highly volatile option.
