Minnesota Vikings TE TJ Hockenson suffered a knee injury and his season is over.
Minnesota Vikings standout tight end, TJ Hockenson, suffered a substantial setback, tearing both his ACL and MCL during the Christmas Eve game against the Lions. Despite this unfortunate end to his season, Hockenson showcased remarkable performance statistics, concluding with an impressive 95 receptions, 960 yards, and 5 touchdowns.
As the fantasy season approaches its final week for most leagues, Hockenson’s injury casts a shadow over his readiness for the upcoming year. Given the severity of the injury, a prolonged recovery period is expected, raising the possibility of Hockenson starting the next season on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list. Look for Josh Oliver as pickup but the QB room is in question at this point. If there’s another option I’d look elsewhere.

Minnesota Vikings Tight End TJ Hockenson will Play today despite injury, Wide Receiver K.J. Osborn is Unlikely to play.
ESPN’s Ed Werder reports that T.J. Hockenson is set to play today on a limited snap count against the New Orleans Saints at 1 pm EST. However, teammate K.J. Osborn is unlikely to play due to a concussion, a decision made by both the player and the coach.
Starting Hockenson in Fantasy is a bit of a desperation move; success will hinge on touchdowns, particularly relying on the Vikings reaching the red zone. With K.J. Osborn sidelined, there’s an opportunity for WR Brandon Powell to make his mark. While a deep-league option for the desperate, it’s also a chance to witness the Dobbs experiment unfold in real time.
Hockenson’s limited play count raises the collective hope for his sustained health during the Vikings’ playoff push. As for K.J. Osborn, out at least for this week, we’ll closely monitor his status, especially with the return of Justin Jefferson. His fantasy outlook is slightly less optimistic, and we’re wary of how long this concussion might linger. Skol.

T.J. Hockenson has signed a contract extension with the Minnesota Vikings.
T.J. Hockenson has signed a contract extension with the Minnesota Vikings. The deal is reportedly a 4-year/$68.5 million contract that will make him one of the highest-paid tight ends in the league. Hockenson was traded to the Minnesota Vikings during the 2022 regular season in exchange for a package of draft picks. He quickly ingratiated himself into the offense and was No. 3 in fantasy points per game following his trade.
This deal was expected, given that the Vikings invested significant draft capital to acquire him. Regardless, this secures his position in one of the highest-volume passing offenses for the foreseeable future. Despite the presence of other notable options, Hockenson will continue to receive enough targets to potentially finish as the highest-scoring tight end not named Travis Kelce.
The hope at this point is that Hockenson will return to practice sooner rather than later. He missed most of training camp while this contract was being negotiated due to back stiffness and an ear infection. However, the Vikings have expressed their belief that Hockenson is not in danger of missing week one. Fantasy managers can confidently start him as a top 5 fantasy tight end right out of the gate barring any setbacks.
