Jameson Williams on Track for Massive Breakout
1 month ago

Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell has high praise for speedy wideout Jameson Williams entering his 4th year in the league.

Jameson Williams came out of Alabama as one of the fastest players in the 2022 NFL Draft. While his start in the league was delayed by an ACL injury and a gambling suspension, his 3rd year in the league showed us what he is capable of. Williams appeared in 15 games and had 58 catches, 1,001 yards and 7 touchdowns. At 17.3 yards per catch, Williams’ speed was clearly evident. Lions head coach Dan Campbell was effusive in his praise of Williams and his development as a route runner. The Lions will look to make Jamo a focal point in the passing game. Williams will have competition in fellow reciever Amon Ra St. Brown, tight end Sam LaPorta, and receiving back Jahmyr Gibbs. It is wise to utilize all the weapons in their disposal, so the Lions offense will look to be lethal again for opposing defenses in 2025.

Jameson Williams finished 2024 as WR22. Look for him to be a potential top 10 receiver in 2025. His playmaking ability is too rare to keep contained, the Lions will rely on him to continue making splash plays at a more consistent level. His current ADP of WR24 makes him an absolute steal in any format. Look to acquire him in all league settings.

Jameson Williams ‘Breakout’ Year Expected From Lions new OC
1 month ago

John Morton had some high praise, and high expectations out of Detroit Lions WR Jameson Williams

Jameson Williams has technically already broken out, according to both measures used by PlayaerProfiler. With his 58 receptions for 1001 receiving yards and 7 Touchdowns last season, Williams reached both of the either-or’s to be considered a breakout – 1,000 receiving yards and 200 fantasy points (ppr). The Detroit Lions new Offensive Coordinator John Morton, stepping in for the huge shoes that Ben Johnson left behind, thinks Jamo has even more to offer this season – Morton cited the receivers attentiveness in meetings and attention to detail, and also told the media he’s never been around a player with that kind of speed and explosion. (Perhaps  Jahmyr Gibbs is still on vacation?)

The Lions have basically all the pieces they need to keep the offense humming, while John Morton is a self proclaimed aggressive play caller there’s not a lot of room to grow for his offense. Finishing 2nd in total yards per game last year with 409.5, second in passing yards per game at 263.2 and first in points per game at 33.2,  Jameson Williams would do well to keep at about the same pace as last year. A little year to year variance on yardage and touchdowns could push Jamo up the WR2 rankings, but without injury to other Lions, it would be difficult to truly break into the elite tier in 2025.

The Lions Are Exercising Their 5th-Year Option on Jameson Williams
2 months ago

Jameson Williams is staying in Detroit as the Lions have exercised their 5th-year option on the dazzling wideout.

The Detroit Lions have exercised their 5th-year option on wide receiver Jameson Williams. This is good news as there had been some recent murmurings about a Jameson Williams trade.

While Jameson Williams is an electric playmaker, he has dealt with injuries and suspensions that have derailed a full breakout. His 2024 season which was his 3rd was the first time he had a full training camp that wasn’t interrupted by injury or suspension.

Looking to build off of a productive offseason, Jameson Williams staying with Detroit will give him the chance to fully reach his potential. Williams was WR22 last season eclipsing 1,000 receiving yards on just 58 receptions.  His 117.0 Explosive Rating ranked No.11 at wide receiver. Jameson Williams can be had in best ball drafts in round 4 on Underdog.

Dynasty Riser: Jameson Williams

Jameson Williams flashes game breaking ability in playoff loss.

Jameson Williams became a full time player for the first time in 2024, and he delivered on the promise that made him the 12th overall pick in the 2022 draft.  He scored on reverses and deep bombs alike, showing game breaking speed that many dynasty players have been waiting to see get deployed for years.

Williams finished 2024 with 91 targets, 58 catches 1001 yards and 7tds receiving, all career highs by a large margin.  His longest play came in week 16, where he ran a deep post pattern for an 82 yard TD.  On the breathtaking bomb, he ran by 2 Chicago Bears defenders like they were standing still, catching the ball in stride and running untouched into the end zone.  In the Divisional round loss to the Commanders, he scored on a 66 yard end around and had one of the more fineable celebrations you will ever see.  He has Tyreek Hill level breakaway speed.

So you held Jameson Williams for the vaunted 3rd year breakout, now what?  Williams performance in 2024 is not indicative that he reached his ceiling and he is in an elite offensive ecosystem that has proven it can support a multitude of options to fantasy relevance.  Currently our 35th ranked WR in dynasty, he would be an absolute steal of a buy in ANY bestball format.    Keep, Trade, Cut has him even in value with assets like George Pickens, a mid 2026 1st, and Kenneth Walker.  I am IN on buying him at those prices.

Jared Goff Catches a Lot of Heat for the Lions Playoff Loss
5 months ago

With Super Bowl expectations through the roof, Lions quarterback Jared Goff comes up short in a playoff letdown.

The Detroit Lions leave the playoffs disappointed and heartbroken. The upstart Washington Commanders blew through the Lions for a 45-31 upset led by rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels.

Jared Goff was 23/40 for 313 passing yards. That is good to see in the stat sheet except for the fact that Goff had a 1:3 touchdown to interception ratio as well as losing a fumble. With 4 turnovers and the Commanders converting 4th downs and turning field goal drives into touchdowns, it became difficult for the Lions to keep up.

In 2024, the Lions made it a habit of pushing other teams into shootouts. The Commanders not only matched the Lions energy, but they also were able to bring the defensive energy winning the turnover battle. The Lions were 9.5 point favorites and end their season with a 14 point loss.

Jared Goff finished 2024 as the QB-8 and is ranked 20th in our dynasty quarterback rankings just behind Baker Mayfield. Goff will continue to be a safe QB-2 in superflex formats as he is buoyed by formidable talent in Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams, Sam LaPorta, David Montgomery, and the uber-talented Jahmyr Gibbs.

Jameson Williams Suspended for 2 Games

Jameson Williams will miss the next 2 weeks for violating the NFL’s Performance-Enhancing Substances (PES) policy.

The news of Jameson’s suspension is a big blow to the breakout Wide Receiver and the surging Lions. Williams, in just 6 games this season, has nearly doubled his career stats. With 361 receiving yards, 3 touchdowns and a staggering 21.2 Yards per Catch (No. 2 in the NFL), Jameson had answered the question of “Who will be Detroit’s number two wide receiver?”.

In his absence, the Lions will look to lean into their Top four rushing offense and super-star wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown to compensate for the lack of a deep threat. We should expect to see St. Brown receive the lion’s share of the vacated targets and take his already dominating 29.3% target share north of 30%.

There is an interesting opportunity, however, for a struggling Tight End to re-emerge. Sam LaPorta has been a fantasy football bust so far, coming in as the TE21 through 7 weeks after being drafted as the TE1 most of the off-season. Williams is leaving behind a 17.3% target share while LaPorta is at a lowly 9.8% (No. 30). Offensive Coordinator, Ben Johnson will be looking to the young Tight End to get him going again, following his breakout rookie season.

In deeper leagues, Kalif Raymond comes around as an interesting prospect. He looks to slot in to the Jameson Williams role as the field stretcher and offers big-play potential off of the Play-Action pass. In the past two weeks Raymond has earned 10 targets, more than both LaPorta and Jameson combined. He’s no more than a dart throw flex in the deepest of leagues but the way this offense works, there is boom potential waiting to happen.

While this news is a hit to the expected efficiency of the Detroit offense near term, we should still see fantasy boosts to Jahmyr Gibbs, Amon-Ra St. Brown and Sam LaPorta as the primary pass catching options. Not against the Titans in Week 8, but Kalif Raymond will be a sneaky GPP play in DFS Week 9 against the Green Bay Packers in what will be a high-scoring affair.
