Amari Cooper is Set to Retire

After a 10-year career, veteran wide receiver Amari Cooper is hanging up his cleats.

Not even two weeks after signing with the Las Vegas Raiders, veteran wide receiver Amari Cooper is set to retire. Finishing his career with 711 catches, 10,033 yards, and 64 touchdowns, he provided fantasy managers with plenty of production and spike weeks. Last season with the Buffalo Bills, it seems he lost his battle with Father Time, having his worst statistical season.

With the departure of Cooper, this opens up more opportunities for other Raiders’ pass catchers, most notably rookie Dont’e Thornton, who has shown progress in training camp. The big-bodied speedster brings a different element to this Raiders team and has built great chemistry so far with quarterback Geno Smith. New offensive coordinator Chip Kelly loves to deploy a fast-paced, spread offense, which creates mismatches. When teams must worry about Brock Bowers, Ashton Jeanty, and Jakobi Meyers, this is where we could see Thornton give us massive spike weeks.

Thornton currently has an Underdog ADP of 192, which makes him a low-risk, high-reward type of asset. He has been running reps with the first team and could return value immediately for drafters.

Amari Cooper Signs With Raiders

With fewer than two weeks remaining before the start of the 2025 NFL season, veteran wide receiver Amari Cooper has signed a one-year deal to reunite with the Las Vegas Raiders.

Coming off a down year with the Cleveland Browns, and subsequent trade to the Buffalo Bills, Amari Cooper waited all off-season to sign a deal in free agency. The Raiders lack veteran wide receiver depth behind Jakobi Meyers, who publicly requested a trade. There are a few other rookie WRs who may make noise, such as Jack Bech and Dont’e Thornton, but it’s worth noting that Cooper only signed after Meyers made his trade request known.

Unfortunately, Cooper’s archetype of big body outside wide receiver profiles as a steep drop off once production declines, unless he can claim a role in the slot. Tre Tucker and Brock Bowers mostly handle slot duty, leaving little pathway for Cooper to be a productive fantasy asset for 2025. He is an avoid in most formats, and worth last round speculative selection in bestball drafts.

Jerry Jeudy's ADP Rocks

Drafters are once again ready to be hurt again and are buying into Jerry Jeudy as a 5th year breakout.

Jerry Jeudy has risen 4 spots in ADP on UnderDog since July 9th. The new Cleveland Browns wide receiver is being drafted at the 10-11 turn. Heading into his 5th year on his second team, Jeudy did well this offseason in getting a 3-year $52 million contract in free agency.

With Amari Cooper wanting a new contract and the uncertainty that hangs over the Browns organization since Deshaun Watson signed, drafters are once again telling themselves a story to how Jeudy can pay off at WR-61 pricing on UnderDog. Jeudy is also an excellent selection for drafters looking to correlate the week 17 matchup against the Miami Dolphins. With steep investments of Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, and De’Von Achane, having Jerry Jeudy to click at the 10-11 turn is palatable and alluring.

Overall, continue to click Jerry Jeudy where he goes as failure at the current price point won’t sink your teams with the upside well worth adding him to your best ball squads. Expect things to smooth over between Amari Cooper and the Browns which will keep Jerry Jeudy’s price in check.

Amari Cooper Missing from Mandatory Minicamp
1 year ago

With wide receiver salaries increasing, Amari Cooper is going into his final year with the Browns and currently holding out from minicamp.

Amari Cooper missed the first day of mandatory minicamp. Coach Stefanski confirming, “It’s not excused,” Stefanski told reporters. “Obviously as you guys know, you really have to focus on the guys that are here. These situations, I understand that they do come up. Cooper is in his final year of his contract and is looking to holdout to work on an extension. Cooper is coming off another stellar year, even with unique quarterback situation, finishing last season with 72 receptions, 1,250 receiving yards and 5 touchdowns.

Amari’s fantasy value is still pretty high in redraft formats, where he has been WR15 in PPR or better in 3 out of the last 5 years. Even with the holdout, don’t be concerned when the season approaches.

Amari Cooper Groin Injury Reaggravated

Browns WR Amari Copper reaggravated a  groin injury during a Saturday practice leading to a questionable designation before Monday night game.

The early season injuries continue to roll in as Saturday Browns WR Amari Cooper added his name to the injury report after reaggravating a groin injury. Browns Head Coach Kevin Stafanski told reporters Saturday that Amari Cooper aggravated a groin injury. The team, Stefanski says, will now monitor Cooper in preparation for Week 2’s Monday night contest. Monday at approximately 6:30pm Amari Cooper according to reports will be active for Monday nights game Vs the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Amari Cooper being active after initial reports that he was trending towards missing the game is a little suspicious to say the least. This seems eerily similar to Tee Higgins being “active” last year only to play less than half the game. Could this be a decoy move by Browns HC Kevin Stefanski? Or will Amari be a full go and contribute in what looks like a favorable matchup.

Browns pass catchers not named Amari Cooper should be in line for increased target shares this week. There should not be confidence in Cooper playing with this groin injury. Elijah Moore looked good in a monsoon last week earning the same amount of targets (7) as Cooper and adding 2 rushes. He should be viewed as the number one target for QB Deshaun Watson this week.
