The Jacksonville Jaguars plan to have Travis Hunter be an every down wide receiver Week 1 against the Carolina Panthers.
Buckle up fantasy football managers! Rookie dual threat Travis Hunter is set to primarily play wide receiver in Week 1 with a situational role at cornerback. This is welcome news for those who have been drafting him all offseason amidst the fear of a more even split.
The big winners here are fantasy managers who play in IDP leagues. Hunter will be able to be slotted in the defensive back slot while generating points as a wide receiver. This is a cheat code not seen since Taysom Hill of the Saints was slotted as a tight end yet being deployed as a quarterback. Also, those who believed in Travis Hunter as the WR1 in this rookie class are feeling an extra pep in their step.
The Jaguars are claiming that Hunter’s role will change on a weekly basis, but it is difficult to envision Trevor Lawrence and the collective offense not clamoring for Hunter to be used on offense. Fire up Travis Hunter everywhere in a juicy matchup against the Carolina Panthers.

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence did a much...
Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Liam Coen said on Thursday ...
Speaking at the team's first training camp practice on ...
After just one season with the team, the Jaguars release wide receiver Gabriel Davis.
The Jacksonville Jaguars are making big changes to their offense. Those plans do not include wide receiver Gabriel Davis as he has been released. With head coach Liam Coen coming to town, a revival in fantasy goodness is expected with Trevor Lawrence at the helm.
The Jaguars made a bold move to support Lawrence’s ascendance by trading up to pick 2 in the NFL Draft in order to select the hybrid 2024 Heisman winner in Colorado’s Travis Hunter. Opposite of Brian Thomas Jr. the Jaguars are bound to improve significantly on offense.
As Ferris Bueller once said, “Life moves pretty fast.” With Gabriel Davis it is in the form of being released 1 year into his 3-year, $39 million contract. Look for Davis to sign a low risk 1-year deal with a wide receiver needy team. A Bills reunion immediately comes to mind.

The Jacksonville Jaguars made the first trade of the 2025 NFL draft, all the way to second overall to select the Colorado star
After all the talk about the Jacksonville Jaguars potentially trading up for Ashton Jeanty in the 2025 NFL Draft, the team dialed it up a notch by trading for the No. 2 pick from Cleveland to select two-way threat Travis Hunter.
Hunter has repeatedly said he would only play if he could continue to line up at wide receiver and defensive back. The Browns were expected to give him that opportunity, but Jacksonville must have sweetened the deal to make the first big splash on the evening. Terms of the trade were not immediately available.
Per ESPN Insider Adam Schefter, the Jaguars are expected first to introduce Hunter to the receiving corps while still working him into his more natural position in the defensive backfield. He will line up across from last year’s breakout rookie Brian Thomas Jr, giving Trevor Lawrence a more potent arsenal than he’s had in recent memory.

Trevor Lawrence’s Shoulder Injury: Fantasy Red Flag for 2025?
Trevor Lawrence, the Jacksonville Jaguars’ QB1, is expected to be limited during OTAs this offseason as he recovers from shoulder surgery. After undergoing an operation to repair a left AC joint sprain, Lawrence is optimistic about being ready for training camp, but his reps will likely be limited early on. He missed seven games last season, and with a new offensive scheme under head coach Liam Coen, Lawrence’s adjustment period could hinder his immediate fantasy value. Given the team’s ongoing roster rebuild, including changes at key positions, fantasy managers should be cautious and consider Lawrence more as a QB2 with potential, rather than a high-end QB1 to start the season.
Despite the injury setbacks, Lawrence remains a young, promising quarterback with upside, but the road to fantasy stardom could be rocky in 2025. He has already started throwing again and is working with Coen to fine tune the new offense. However, the Jaguars still need to address the WR2 and tight end spots, which could limit Lawrence’s opportunities early in the season. With his shoulder injury and a third offensive system in five years, it’s unlikely Lawrence will hit the ground running. For fantasy purposes, he’s currently a gamble with QB1 upside later in the season, but it’s wise to temper expectations early in 2025. Keep an eye on his recovery and his adaptation to the new offense, but don’t expect him to be a top-tier fantasy quarterback at the start of the year.

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers Offensive Coordinator Liam Coen is set to become Jaguars Head Coach.
Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers Offensive Coordinator Liam Coen is now set to become the Jacksonville Jaguars next Head Coach. After a wild sequence of events, from Coen having interviews, to withdrawing his name, to becoming one of the highest paid coordinators in the league, and then the Jaguars firing their GM Trent Baalke, Coen is finally now in Jacksonville as their new Head Coach.
For a minute this seemed like it was going to be very familiar to the new Chicago Bears Head Coach Ben Johnson situation last offseason, where Johnson was sought to become a head coach, but Johnson ultimately returned to the Detroit Lions for another season as the Offensive Coordinator. But due to series of events it’s a different story for Liam Coen, and he is now the Jaguars Head Coach.
For Fantasy purposes, this is a blow for Baker Mayfield and all of the Buccaneers offensive players. On the other side, this is massive gain for Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars offense. Also, look for Brian Thomas Jr. to have another big season.

Trevor Lawrence Suffers Serious Concussion, Ruled Out for Week 14; Azeez Al-Shaair Suspended for Three Games
In a brutal turn of events, Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence suffered a serious concussion following a violent hit in their Week 13 matchup against the Houston Texans. The injury occurred late in the game when Lawrence took a heavy blow to the head from linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair. Lawrence was immediately ruled out for the remainder of the game, and early reports suggest he will likely miss the Jaguars’ Week 14 contest as well.
The NFL has responded to the hit by suspending Al-Shaair for three games for his role in the incident. The league determined that Al-Shaair’s hit was not only unnecessary but also placed Lawrence in significant danger, violating player safety protocols. The suspension marks a significant disciplinary move to protect players from head injuries, which have become a major focus of league officials.
Fantasy football managers, particularly those with Lawrence as their starting quarterback, will certainly feel the sting of his absence—especially with several teams already on bye in Week 14. With Lawrence sidelined, the Jaguars will likely turn to backup quarterback Mac Jones to lead the offense. Fantasy owners of key Jaguars weapons—such as rookie sensation Brian Thomas Jr., tight end Evan Engram, and running back Travis Etienne—will also need to lower expectations, as Mac Jones will be under center in place of Lawrence. The impact of Lawrence’s injury will reverberate across both real and fantasy football, as the Jaguars’ offense, which had been clicking with Lawrence at the helm, faces an uncertain road ahead.
