NFL Playoffs: Divisional Round Injury Update | Actives and Inactives Saturday 1/17/2026
2 weeks ago

The Divisional Round of the NFL playoffs is here, and with it comes Saturday’s actives and inactives before game time

It’s time for the NFL Divisional Round of the playoffs. It also means the latest in injury news to report before the teams release before gametime.

  • Today, the No. 6 seed Buffalo Bills head to Mile High Stadium to face the top-seeded Denver Broncos. Josh Allen has many bumps and bruises ailing him, but he will be “full go” for the matchup, absent receivers Gabe Davis and Tyrell Shavers, who landed on the injured reserve last week, ending their season for an already-depleted wide receiver corps.
  • Good news in that department came in the form of Curtis Samuel being activated from the list. He is active for the game and will jump right in as a weapon for Allen.
  • Tight end Dalton Kincaid was limited all week (knee, calf) but has been playing through the injury of late. He will do so again on Saturday.
  • Placekicker Matt Prater is good to go; it appears his quad injury is completely behind him.
  • Running Back Ty Johnson (ankle) was only able to practice once this week, and on a limited basis. Expected to be the Bills’ No. 2 RB over Ray Davis. Johnson is officially out.
  • The Denver Broncos have no notable injuries on the offensive side after a week of rest.

  • The No. 6-seeded San Francisco 49ers will have to take on their rivals in Seattle without tight end George Kittle against the Seahawks.
  • Wide receiver Jacob Cowing (IR) will not be activated before the game.
  • Wideout Ricky Pearsall (PCL) is questionable and will be a game-time decision. Pearsall himself admitted a lack of explosiveness thanks to the injury but hopes to be on the field. Kyle Shanahan relayed that if he can play, there will be no snap count restrictions whatsoever.
  • Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold, already battling a quad injury, aggravated the injury in practice and was forced to cut the session short. Darnold maintains that he is “fine” and is “looking forward to being out there.” Seattle’s backup quarterback is Drew Lock.
  • Wide receivers Cooper Kupp and Jaxon Smith-Njigba missed practice on consecutive days this week, but neither absence was injury-related.

Buffalo Bills (12-5) at Denver Broncos (14-3) – 4:30 PM ET

San Francisco 49ers (12-5) at 1 Seattle Seahawks (14-3) – 8:00 PM ET – Update coming soon

James Cook Misses Wednesday Practice

Buffalo Bills star running back James Cook was designated Did Not Participate in Wednesday practice.

Bills running back James Cook did not practice Wednesday due to an ankle injury sustained at the end of the win over the Kansas City Chiefs. This would leave Ty Johnson and Ray Davis as the top backs for Buffalo. Ray Davis would likely see the early down work while Johnson would see passing down work.

Cook not practicing would behoove fantasy players to pick up and stash either Ray Davis or Ty Johnson. Ray Davis has the size and athletic profile to be a wonderful bell cow back, but the team clearly trust Johnson over Davis on passing downs. Either back is valuable should Cook not play, it all comes down to which back you prefer.

Ty Johnson Back With the Bills

The Buffalo Bills are bringing back RB Ty Johnson on a 2-year contract.

Ty Johnson returns to Buffalo, where he combined for 691 total yards and 5 touchdowns during the last two seasons. The 27-year-old played well in key spots for the Bills last year, averaging 5.2 yards per carry and a very respectable 15.8 yards on his catches.

This is good news for Josh Allen and, ultimately, James Cook, whose owners should worry less now about the team drafting a running back in the early or middle rounds.  The team also signed Darrynton Evans for depth in a seemingly complete backfield that poses little threat to eating into Cook’s workload.

This could be considered sub-par news for Ray Davis owners, but as we saw last year, both running backs fit in well together behind Cook. Davis showed enough to hopefully challenge Ty Johnson for more snaps this year and should continue to see sparing opportunities around the goal line.
