Trading in fantasy football is an important way to make your team better. However, it is also the only controllable way to make other teams worse. In theory, great fantasy football trades optimize the rosters of both teams involved, leaving non-trading teams behind. In Week 13, with trade deadlines looming and the fantasy football playoffs only two weeks away, we will discuss trades in a more traditional buy/sell context so you can maximize your playoff roster.

Week 13 Fantasy Football Trade Advice
Buy: RB RJ Harvey, Denver Broncos
RJ Harvey is coming off a bye and ready for a post-bye-week rookie bump. The carpet is laid down for him to ascend as a league winner for the fantasy playoffs. Harvey has displayed week-winning upside, posting three top-12 fantasy finishes at the running back position, all while sharing a backfield with J.K. Dobbins.
With Dobbins now hurt, Harvey now has a clear path to a top-five RB role for the rest of the season. While role players Jaleel McLaughlin and Tyler Badie will be utilized, Harvey’s talent will win out eventually. Harvey’s +15.7 Production Premium is second among qualified running backs. He is an efficient runner who should go nuclear with increased touches.
Sell: WR Justin Jefferson, Minnesota Vikings
J.J. McCarthy has Justin Jefferson running routes like a suburban mom in a weighted running vest. McCarthy’s quarterback play has been awful this season and has been dragging down Jefferson’s efficiency to a career-low 0.41 fantasy points per route run. With McCarthy now set to potentially miss week 13, the Vikings are turning to UDFA Max Brosmer with the hopes of elevating the offense.
If you could sell Jefferson for anything due to his name value, I would do it. He is looking like a fantasy player who is stuck in your lineup due to his real-life skill, but is set to underachieve every week due to team context. Trust me, you’d rather have your opponent start him come playoff time.
Buy: RB Bucky Irving, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Bucky Irving looks set to return for Week 13 after being missing in action since Week 5. While the injury to Baker Mayfield‘s non-throwing shoulder may give you pause in acquiring Irving, use this as a buy-low window. Irving functioned as a true bell cow for the Buccanears through the first four weeks of the season, averaging 22.5 touches. The Bucs should lean on Irving even more with Mayfield on the mend. He is a set-and-forget RB1 ROS upon his return, and you may be able to get him for RB2 prices.
Sell: RB Bijan Robinson, Atlanta Falcons
Bijan Robinson has a good schedule to end the season with games against the Buccaneers and Cardinals in Weeks 15 and 16. However, he faces a Rams defense in Week 17 that will likely make quick work of the Falcons’ Kirk Cousins-led offense.
Coupled with this incoming decrease in offense efficiency is the Falcons’ continued usage of Tyler Allgeier, who saw only two fewer opportunities than Bijan last week against the Saints. At this point in the season, I’d want a running back who I could count on for either a solid workload or uber efficiency. Unfortunately, Bijan doesn’t check those boxes. Look to sell Robinson for an upgrade in your lineup.
Buy: WR Stefon Diggs, New England Patriots
Stefon Diggs is a nice buy-low target if you are looking to upgrade your receiver room. He faceplanted against a generous Bengals defense last week, scoring only 4.0 fantasy points. However, he is running just as many routes as any other receiver on the field. With favorable matchups against the Bills, Ravens, and Jets in the fantasy playoffs, Diggs should be a locked-in top 10 WR rest of season after the Patriots bye. Use the Week 14 bye as leverage to pry him from the roster of an opponent who needs a late-season win to clinch a playoff berth, and reap the rewards of a Patriot on your playoff roster.
Sell: WR Rome Odunze, Chicago Bears
After a blistering start to the season, Rome Odunze has cooled down, scoring less than 10 fantasy points in his last two games, and averaging 8.75 fantasy points per game in his last four contests. Thankfully, he has had some spike weeks recently, which could tempt someone to buy Odnuze.
However, with Colston Loveland and Luther Burden III gaining more opportunities in Chicago’s offense, consistency will only continue to be an issue for the second-year WR. Look to sell Odunze for a more consistent asset for the fantasy playoffs; the Bears’ schedule in Weeks 15-17 is also really tough with games against the Browns and the Packers.
Good luck in the fantasy playoffs, and thanks for reading this season!
