Week 10 Fantasy Football Takeaways

by Tyler Knaeble · Analytics & Advanced Metrics

This is Week 10 Fantasy Football Reactions! Despite the Chiefs, Eagles, Rams and Dolphins being BYE, we actually saw some really nice offensive football in Week 10! Texans/Benagls, Ravens/Browns, and Lions/Chargers were all really fun fantasy games!

With that being said, Jahmyr Gibbs managers were having the most fun on Sunday.

Let’s dive into the the Quick Takes Starting Lineup!

Quick Takes Starting Lineup

QB: C.J. Stroud, wow is he so much fun.

RB: Lions Backfield, wow are they even more fun.

RB: Yep, this is Jonathan Taylor’s backfield.

WR: Is this Noah Brown thing for real?

WR: Amari Cooper is a sneaky buy for ROS.

TE: T.J. Hockenson, a staple of this program, is proving us right.

FLEX: I’m not going to mention Bijan, if you have a pulse, you are aware.

SFLEX: Why can’t we have Jameis Winston play every week!?

Takeaway No. 1: Go Buy Brock Purdy in All Formats!

Is Brock Purdy a top 10 quarterback in terms of talent? No, he’s not.

However, when you have Kyle Shanahan, Trent Williams, Deebo Samuel, Christian McCaffrey, Brandon Aiyuk, George Kittle, and that defense, you are going to have success.

We saw him struggle a bit when Williams, Samuel, and McCaffrey were all out or dealing with injuries. A lot of people were getting ready to write him off. However, the 49ers came out of the BYE fully healthy, and Purdy went 19/26, 296 yards, and three TDs.

When all of those guys are healthy, Purdy averages 276 passing yards, two TDs, and 20+ fantasy points per game.

If you can somehow get this guy as your QB2 in Superflex, or even if you lack QB production in standard leagues, Purdy is a guy who is really going to excel as we near the home stretch of the season.

Speaking of the homestretch, let’s see who he’s got the rest of the season:

vs TB (Most fantasy points allowed to QBs)

@ SEA (No. 15 most)

@ PHI (No. 5 most)

vs SEA (No. 15 most)

@ ARI (No. 8 most)

vs BAL (No. 32 most)

@WAS (No. 3 most)

Outside of Baltimore, it should be BBQ Chicken for Purdy and the 49ers when it comes to fantasy.

Takeaway No. 2: Are we actually getting a Jahmyr Gibbs takeover??

There’s a lot of talk about Bijan Robinson finally getting a red zone/goal line touchdown. However, there is not enough fuss being made about Jahmyr Gibbs getting two goal line TDs and four carries inside the five-yard line. David Montgomery only had two carries from inside the five.

But more importantly, Gibbs out-touched Montgomery for the first time in a game where they were both at full health. Gibbs finished the day with 14 carries, 77 yards, five catches for 35 yards, and two TDs.

Montgomery finished with 12 carries for 116 yards and a TD thanks to a 75-yard scamper to the house!

My biggest takeaway is that this backfield is just so much fun and without a doubt the best in the league.

As far as fantasy football goes, I wouldn’t say that this is Gibbs’s backfield just yet. There will be games where Montgomery out-touches Gibbs and vultures some goal-line TDs away from Gibbs. However, the Lions know they can’t keep this guy off the field.

I envision this as an Ezekiel Elliott/ Tony Pollard situation except David Montgomery is a 2020 Zeke and Gibbs is a 2022 Tony Pollard.

The bottom line is you want to have anyone who plays for the Detroit Lions on your fantasy team. So don’t try to sell high on Gibbs, don’t go overthinking Montgomery, just kick back, relax, and enjoy the show.

Takeaways No. 3: You have to go get Trey McBride

It took about a season and a half to get to this point, but this Trey McBride thing is finally happening.

The tight end position has not only always been a safety valve for Kyler Murray, but the tight ends are also a key component of this Arizona, Drew Penzig offense.

In 2022, Kyler Murray played 11 games and Arizona ranked No. 4 in total targets to tight ends. Coming into Week 10, the Cardinals ranked No. 4 in total targets to tight ends in 2023.

Put it all together and what do you get?

Trey McBride going for nine targets, eight catches, and 131 receiving yards.

Go get him.
