Dynasty Fantasy Football Trade Watch: Buy/Sell/Hold Week 5

Dynasty Fantasy Football Trades Week 5 -- Kyle Pitts

Last week, I talked about how one of my teams was just absolutely ravaged with injuries, forcing me to deploy a bunch of rookies. Well, I’m happy to report that Woody Marks came through with a breakout performance and carried me to a much-needed W, getting me to 2-2.

I also pulled off another galaxy-brain move in my home league to start Week 5. With byes, injuries, and a Rashee Rice suspension leaving me with only two healthy wideouts in a three-WR lineup, I had to get creative. I was scanning the player pool when I saw him. Jesus Christ … that’s Kendrick Bourne. I scooped him up Thursday morning, tossed him straight into the fire, and he rewarded me with a Jerry Rice cosplay: 10 grabs for 142 yards, a career-high. Not bad for a desperation dart throw. That hot start might just be enough to steal me an upset this week.

I’m sure a lot of managers are in the same boat this week. Four teams are on bye in Week 5, and we just lost some major fantasy stalwarts: Lamar Jackson, Malik Nabers, Tyreek Hill, Bucky Irving, Trey Benson, and Chuba Hubbard. It’s rough out there, people. But tough stretches like this also create opportunity.

Case in point: I lost Nabers on a contender and flipped him and a projected late second-rounder for Rome Odunze and a late first. Love that deal. In the same league, where it looks like I’ll be down Irving and Hubbard for a couple of weeks, I took that first pick and my projected late first-round pick, and bought Jonathan Taylor. Sometimes in fantasy, you can’t just fold a bad hand, you have to shove your chips all-in.

If you’re looking for an edge or some guidance on the best dynasty fantasy football trade to make before the majority of Week 5 kicks off, I’ve got you covered. I’ve highlighted three players I think you should buy, sell, or hold in Week 5, depending on your roster build. Check them out below — and go make some deals.

Dynasty Fantasy Football Trade Advice Week 5

Buy: TE Kyle Pitts, Atlanta Falcons

Are my eyes deceiving me, or are we finally witnessing the Kyle Pitts breakout that we’ve all been waiting for? For the sake of long-suffering Pitts managers who have held him through injuries, bad coaching, and subpar quarterback play, let’s hope this isn’t just another cruel tease.

Heading into his Week 5 bye, Pitts is coming off his best game of the season — catching all five of his targets for 70 yards and a touchdown against the Commanders. He’s now seen at least five targets and has played at least 74%+ of the snaps in every contest. After a few rough seasons where he was basically a mythological creature — all hype, no sightings — Pitts is pacing for 85 catches, 871 yards, and four TDs in 2025.

Kyle Pitts‘ Advanced Metrics

With a new QB under center and finally healthy, Pitts is starting to resemble the player we saw during his electric rookie season, where he became the first TE to top 1,000 yards as a rookie since Mike Ditka … way back when facemasks were optional.

Here’s where he ranks in key advanced metrics through four weeks:

  • #1 in Target Premium (+54.5%)
  • #4 in route participation (91.8%)
  • #8 in target share (18.3%)
  • #12 in first downs per route run (0.089)
  • #18 in target separation (1.95)
  • #21 in yards per route run (1.34)

Most importantly, Pitts has become a trusted target for Michael Penix Jr. He’s got zero drops on the season, and Penix Jr. posted a perfect QB rating when targeting Pitts in Week 4.

The name “Kyle Pitts” still triggers PTSD for some fantasy managers, but if a league mate still views him as a risky asset, now’s a good chance to buy. He has solid usage and rising chemistry with his QB. Use Pitts’ Week 5 bye to your advantage in dynasty fantasy football trade negotiations — maybe they need someone who can actually score points this week.

Being the Pitts stan that I am, I’d be thrilled to land him for, say, two second-rounders. Maybe you can flip a player like T.J. Hockenson, David Montgomery, or Bhayshul Tuten straight up for him. That’s a deal I’d do to acquire him in a TE-premium league. If this production has staying power, then a move like that could be a long-term win.

Sell: TE Dalton Kincaid, Buffalo Bills

Much like Pitts, it appears Dalton Kincaid is finally having his breakout as well. After battling several injuries last year, the former first-rounder seems healthy and currently sits as the TE6 in PPR scoring, averaging 12.5 PPG.

But is the emergence real? Let’s dig deeper.

Kincaid has been solid, but the usage doesn’t exactly scream “set-it-and-forget-it” TE1. He’s averaging just 4.5 targets, 3.5 receptions, and 45 yards per game. He’s splitting snaps with Dawson Knox and Jackson Hawes, leaving him with a modest 47% snap share (TE43) and a 15.1% target share (TE22) through four weeks.

What’s holding Kincaid up right now is strong efficiency when he is on the field and a career-high three trips to the end zone. He’s living off TDs the way my three-year-old lives off chicken nuggets and Goldfish — it works in the moment, but it’s not good for the long haul.

Dalton Kincaid‘s 2025 Receiving Efficiency

Offensive coordinator Joe Brady’s philosophy is “everybody eats.” If you watched Hard Knocks, he even wears a hat with the phrase on it. As long as that remains the case, no one on this offense is going to get hyper-targeted in the passing game. Josh Allen is going to spread it around when he and James Cook aren’t running all over defenders.

If you can flip Kincaid for any first, or package him with a pick to get Tyler Warren, do it. Otherwise, you risk holding onto a guy whose production could cool off once the touchdowns dry up and the snap share doesn’t improve.

Hold/Buy: WR Ladd McConkey, Los Angeles Chargers

What a difference a month makes. From January to early September, fantasy managers were downright smitten with Ladd McConkey. The second-rounder out of Georgia exceeded even the most optimistic expectations as a rookie, posting 82 catches, 1,149 yards, and seven TDs.

Then came the playoff fireworks. In the Chargers’ Wildcard loss, McConkey erupted for 14 targets, nine receptions, 197 yards, and a TD.

That performance sent his dynasty fantasy football trade value through the roof. All offseason, McConkey was routinely selected in the late second to early third rounds of startup drafts. His value peaked in May, when he was the WR9 at one point on KeepTradeCut.

Ladd McConkey Dynasty Fantasy Football Trade Value

Ladd McConkey‘s 6-month dynasty value

Fast forward a month into the 2025 season, and the flame has fizzled. Through four games, McConkey has totaled:

  • 27 targets, 16 receptions, 174 yards, and zero TDs

So where does that leave you? Hold if you’ve got him, buy if you don’t.

The volume is still there — McConkey is seeing nearly seven targets per game, right in line with last year. He remains an elite separator (WR9 in target separation, 2.24 yards) but just hasn’t had any splash plays or TDs yet. Just one deep target and one red zone look through four contests help explain the disappointing box scores.

Ladd McConkey‘s Advanced Metrics

If McConkey’s manager in your league is panicking and focusing only on the short-term struggles, now’s the time to pounce. You’re buying the dip on a young, polished route-runner tied to a strong QB. Float a single first-rounder and see if that gets a deal done.

If you already have him, hold and wait for better days. They’re coming. Right now, McConkey is being overshadowed by Quentin Johnston and Keenan Allen, but that won’t last forever. Allen is 33 and playing on a one-year deal. While Johnston is hot at the moment, he’s already shown inconsistency in his young career.

Dynasty is about playing the long game, and McConkey still looks like one of the safer bets to make at WR beyond 2025.
