Ooof. David Njoku has signed with the Chargers following a recent visit to the team. Coming off an injury-plagued 2025 season, the veteran tight end offers Justin Herbert a reliable weapon, if he can remain healthy.

Njoku’s arrival, in addition to the newly signed Charlie Kolar, signals more 12 and 13 personnel for the Los Angeles offense. While Njoku is not longer a viable fantasy starter, his presence on the roster will unfortunately reduce Oronde Gadsden II‘s target volume.

Rashawn Slater and Joe Alt are currently ahead of schedule in their recoveries, with both players aiming to be fully prepared for the start of training camp. Slater is working back from a ruptured patellar tendon, while Alt is healing from recurring high-ankle sprains that prematurely ended his 2025 season.

Although their progress is encouraging, the team is prioritizing a patient approach to ensure neither tackle is rushed back before they are ready. Their return will be a massive fantasy catalyst for Justin Herbert, who was a fantasy QB1 last year despite playing behind a line lacking its Pro Bowl anchors for most of the season. Slater and Alts return reinforces Omarion Hampton as a premier breakout candidate after flashing true bell-cow usage (17.3 touches per game) as a rookie before his year was derailed by his own ankle issues.

From the moment that former Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel was relieved of his duties on Jan. 8, his name seemed to be on the lips of every NFL organization seeking to make a splash. From front offices in need of a head coach to those needing a coordinator, McDaniel’s reputation as one of the game’s premier offensive minds had teams drooling from coast to coast. The bevy of weapons possessed by the Los Angeles Chargers and the West Coast climate won the day.

McDaniel was dismissed after missing the playoffs each of the last two seasons, unable to overcome a litany of team injuries. He finished in Miami with a 35-33 regular-season record but remained one of the league’s most creative offensive coaches. Everywhere the Colorado native has gone, increased fantasy outputs followed.

Fantasy lowdown: The Chargers are already set up with a core of veterans on offense, as well as a dynamic mix of young playmakers like wide receivers Ladd McConkey and Tre Harris, franchise running back Omarion Hampton, and breakout tight end Oronde Gadsden. McDaniel is well-known for his ability to draw up plans that separate players from coverage, enabling them to get the ball in space with room to run. Like head coach Jim Harbaugh, he believes it starts at the running back position, and Hampton has the talent to make a huge splash in his second season.

Fantasy managers in redraft leagues will have to challenge early in drafts to get a piece, while the time to buy in dynasty might be a closing window. A case can be made for slight overpays, especially with expendable 2026 draft picks.

The Los Angeles Chargers offense completely flatlined in their playoff loss to the New England Patriots, managing just 3 points and never finding a rhythm.  Justin Herbert was under constant pressure and struggled to push the ball downfield, while the running game failed to provide any balance.  Los Angeles consistently stalled on third down and couldn’t capitalize on limited scoring opportunities, leading to a disappointing early playoff exit.  Herbert is now 0-3 in his playoff career.

From a fantasy perspective, the collapse raises offseason questions about the Chargers offensive scheme, protection issues, and overall ceiling for Herbert and the skilled players heading into next season.

No one will question Justin Herbert’s toughness. He is playing through a broken non-throwing hand and likely some other undisclosed injuries. He did not miss any time after having surgery on his hand.

Herbert has withstood his offensive line completely falling apart around him, while still playing like an elite quarterback. He is currently QB9 on the season with 3,727 passing yards 26 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.

Herbert is a must start quarterback and one can only imagine how well he can play if his offense as a whole could just stay healthy. Herbert has top 5 potential with a fully healthy offensive line. Trey Lance will be the starter for the Chargers in week 18.

Justin Herbert threw for 227 yards and three touchdowns on Thursday to defeat the Vikings 37-10. “It was a big win for us, a big opportunity for us to go correct some more mistakes,” said Herbert. This was the first game this season in which the Chargers scored more than 30 points.

Rookie tight end Oronde Gadsden II had another impressive performance, finishing the day with five receptions for 77 yards and a score. His touchdown came on an eight-yard pass, and he also delivered a spectacular 40-yard reception in the game. He has now recorded more than 65 yards in each of his last three games and seems to have found a role in this Chargers offense. The hype has continued to grow and, as of now, should be considered a startable tight end moving forward.
