David Lombardi reports rookie RB Kaelon Black was added to the injury report as limited participant Thursday with a groin issue. Black surprised many in Week 1 by playing 43% of snaps, while rushing for 65 yards on 14 attempts and adding a 5-yard reception. Christian McCaffrey praised Black this week in an interview, likening his ability to have the impact for him that David Montgomery had last year on Jahmyr Gibbs and Tyler Allgeier had on Bijan Robinson to keep them fresh.
Black was a big riser after Week 1’s surprising performance and one of the biggest waiver adds of the week. Fantasy football manager’s will need to keep an eye on tomorrow’s practice report to see Black’s level of participation in order to get a better idea if he will be able to play this weekend.

Jahmyr Gibbs‘ 33.6 PPR fantasy points put him on pace for 571.2 total fantasy points in 2026. Ladainian Tomlinson holds the the all-time fantasy points scoring record with 481.1 fantasy points in his MVP-award winning 2006 campaign.
With former backfield mate David Montgomery now in Houston, Gibbs full capitalized on his role as Detroit’s undisputed RB1. New Orleans had no answer for PlayerProfiler’s No. 1 ranked player in both dynasty and seasonal leagues, as the former number 12 overall pick turned 34 touches into 186 yards and two touchdowns, good for 33.6 PPR points.
Aside from an early first half fumble, Gibbs and Amon-Ra St. Brown operated as the centerpieces of the Lions offense. Gibbs alone touched the ball on 46% of the Lions’ total offensive snaps, and handled 29/31 of all backfield carries. Should this pace hold, Gibbs is in threatening fantasy records territory. Up next, the Lions face a Buffalo Bills defense that just allowed 31 points to the Houston Texans, cementing him as fantasy football’s RB1 for the foreseeable future in all formats.
Lions backup RB Isiah Pacheco will now miss at least the first 4 games of the regular season with a back injury. GM Brad Holmes was asked if we would see Pacheco back on the field at some point this season and his response was, “That’s the hope.” Year 2 RB Jacob Saylors will take over backup responsibilities in the meantime, but this backfield belongs fully to superstar RB Jahmyr Gibbs.
After trading RB David Montgomery to the Texans early this offseason, backup RB could now be a weakness for Detroit. The Lions signed Pacheco, PlayerProfiler’s RB60, to a cheap 1 year contract and now they will have to rely on Jacob Saylors as the backup. Saylors had an impressive 17 carry-1oo yard game in the 2026 preseason finale against the Colts and may be worth an add in deep leagues with Pacheco’s return status up in the air. Gibbs will see the lions share of the touches and he’s poised to have a monster season.

Despite Dan Campbell expressing confidence regarding his Week 1 availability after recent practice absences, MCL strains require a multi-week recovery, and Isiah Pacheco may simply not be ready for the start of the season. Once active, he sits firmly behind Jahmyr Gibbs on the depth chart.
Gibbs ceiling only goes higher with this news, as he already commands elite volume metrics, including a 63.6-percent Opportunity Share and a 17.1-percent Target Share, leaving zero standalone fantasy value for secondary backfield options. Meanwhile, Pacheco functions as a pure contingent asset whose fantasy utility depends on a starter injury ahead of him.
The Detroit Lions faced a stiff test against a very good Philadelphia Eagles defense on Sunday but Jahmyr Gibbs managed to still produce, going for over 100 receiving yards on five catches and added another 39 yards on the ground.
Jameson Williams also had a good day, scoring for the third straight game while securing four passes for 88 yards. Amon-Ra St. Brown only had two grabs for 42 yards and Jared Goff managed to throw for 255 yards, one touchdown and an interception.
The Lions are one of the best offenses in the league but the Eagles defense has been on another level lately, there’s no long term concern for this as a whole and Gibbs continues to show that he’s a matchup proof running back one.

John Morton is the new OC for the Lions after the departure of Ben Johnson. Not much will change for the offense that scored the most points last season, but one new wrinkle is getting running back Jahmyr Gibbs split out wide more. “ That’s good, that’s going to be fun. I’ve been waiting on that,” stated Gibbs
Gibbs caught 104 passes in his first two seasons in the league and quickly became one of the best fantasy football producers in the game. If he gets more involvement in the passing game and has more mismatches out wide, he could break fantasy football. He will be a cheat code. While the Lions still have pass-catching options in Amon Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams and Sam LaPorta, Morton seems to have one vision, and that is to make Gibbs the focal point of the Lions’ offence.
Scoring as the RB1 last season, Gibbs still has room to grow, and with the news of the RB being more involved in the passing game, it makes you think 1,000 yards rushing and 1,000 yards receiving is in the range of outcomes for the explosive Gibbs.
