The Minnesota quarterback competition was an illusion, as the team had no intention of sitting acquired starter Kyler Murray behind J.J. McCarthy. Murray taking the helm upgrades Justin Jefferson, who suffered through a league-bottom Catchable Target Rate last season.

Murray provides a reliable fantasy floor in Kevin O’Connell’s system, while McCarthy remains a stash candidate in superflex leagues due to Murray’s injury history. As an aside, O’Connell did say that he believes J.J. McCarthy “has a future with the organization.” While Murray’s floor is established with upgraded weaponry, he is also contract chasing, and will likely continue to scramble at a high rate that raises his fantasy ceiling as well. Murray is PlayerProfiler’s QB13 for 2026 fantasy football drafts.
