Logan Thomas Released by Commanders | Cole Turner Moves Up Depth Chart
1 month ago

The Washington Commanders cut TE Logan Thomas.

The Washington Commanders have decided to move on from TE Logan Thomas. Thomas was coming off his best season since 2020, however, a $6.5 million cap hit this year made it an easy decision. Thomas is athletic and improved this past season another year removed from the torn Achilles he suffered in 2021. Thomas will garner interest on the free agent market and could offer low TE2 upside in the right situation.

Cole Turner will be a hot name in the fantasy football community in the coming weeks as a result. Turner is a former 5th round pick who has shown glimpses of promise when Thomas has missed time. Nonetheless, he was a healthy scratch toward the end of last season. In my opinion, the likely starting tight end for the Commanders in 2024 likely isn’t on the roster yet. While Turner could be thrust into an open competition, Washington will certainly address the position through the draft or free agency.

Logan Thomas Ruled Out in Week Three (Concussion)

Logan Thomas Won’t suit up this weekend against the Buffalo Bills in week three with a concussion.

Logan Thomas won’t be able to suit up in Washington’s week three matchup against the Buffalo Bills. This is a result of the brutal hit he suffered at the hands of Kareem Jackson last weekend who was subsequently ejected. Thomas will remain in concussion protocol and look to return to the starting lineup in week four.

John Bates will take over the No.1 tight end duties and had three receptions for 46 yards last weekend with increased playing time. However, he is nothing more than a desperate streaming option and a low TE2 in deeper formats. This may result in a modest bump for the rest of the pass catchers as well, but Terry Mclcaurin and Jahan Dotson remain the only comfortable fantasy starter among the Commanders’ pass catchers.
