LaJohntay Wester "May Be Called on to Step Up" in Baltimore

The Ravens announced on X that star WR Zay Flowers (hamstring) will miss Week 2’s game vs. the New Orleans Saints. This is not a surprise but is unfortunate, as Flowers started off dominant in Declan Doyle’s new offense, finishing as WR7 while putting up 150 yards and a touchdown on 5 catches halfway through the first quarter prior to injuring his hamstring.
With Ja’Kobi Lane recently placed on IR due to an injury of his own, Rashod Bateman will be the top WR standing for the Ravens. This will also create an opportunity for fellow WR’s Devontez Walker, Elijah Sarratt, and LaJohntay Wester to make a name for themselves. Mark Andrews should also benefit and get increased targets. Fantasy football managers will need to keep an eye on Flowers’ practice reports next week to see if he can return in Week 3.

Garafolo speculates that this wrist injury could keep Ja’Kobi Lane out beyond the Week 1 contest. Very unfortunate for the rookie WR, who also had a TD catch called back earlier in his debut.
Given the injury to fellow WR Zay Flowers, who left the game with a hamstring injury, this could be a tough blow to the Ravens WR corps. 4th round rookie WR Elijah Sarratt was a healthy inactive in Week 1, but would likely be active next week, should either of these injuries keep Flowers or Lane out beyond this week. Head Coach Jesse Minter didn’t have any update in his post-game press conference, so fantasy football managers will need to pay attention in the coming days.
Ravens star WR Zay Flowers left the Ravens’ Week 1 game about halfway through the first quarter with a hamstring injury. He was dominating up until that point, putting up 5 catches for 150 yards and a touchdown before exiting.
Flowers was dealing with a hamstring injury leading into Week 1, so if this is a re-injury there is a possibility he misses up to a month. Fantasy football managers will hope for the best-case scenario here. as Flowers seems primed for a big year in the Ravens’ new offense.
LaJohntay Wester shared during combine interviews that he might not be an impact player right away at the NFL level, but he knows what he can bring to a team. When asked what drill he was most excited for, he quickly said the 40-yard dash. His 4.46 40-yard time is not bad whatsoever, but his size of 5’10”, 163 lbs is concerning.
Wester also chose to participate in jumping drills which help project explosiveness, and his 32″ vertical and 10’1″ broad jump aren’t great marks. Wester shared during combine interviews that he believes he was the best separator at CU and had to work for all of his catches. While Wester didn’t blow anyone away with his athletic testing, he’s a lunch pail guy who was consistently productive in college.
Wester is the type of player who you root for and can defy the numbers with the nuances to his game and solid hands. He’ll face an uphill battle to make it in the NFL but will certainly have a chance to work his way onto the field with his route running ability.
