With a July 23rd start, Joe Mixon is expected to be ready for training camp.
Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon is expected to be ready for the start of training camp on July 23rd. There has been some concern over his foot and ankle which haven’t been helped by the signing of Nick Chubb and the drafting of USC’s Woody Marks.
The good news for Mixon heading into 2025 is that last season he was 5th in opportunity share at 77.7% and 9th in fantasy points per game at 17.2. Unfortunately, Mixon showed signs of slowing down late last season as he finished from the RB27-RB52 in the final 4 weeks.
Mixon will soon be 29 and is an asset to sell in dynasty before he falls off from his prime. Nick Chubb will take away some series on gameday and Wood Marks is a natural fit for the passing down role and hurry up offense. He goes in round 5 on Underdog right behind Saints running back Alvin Kamara and Broncos running back RJ Harvey. At ADP, there are several other better options considering the direction Mixon is headed in.

Texans RB Joe Mixon punctuates emphatic “upset” win at home for the Houston Texans.
Joe Mixon bludgeoned the Chargers defense yesterday. The bruising back finished with 106 yards on 25 carries and one punishing statement TD run to seal the game for the Texans. Despite being the home team, closed as 3.5 point underdogs at home to the visiting Los Angeles Chargers. Mixon has been the engine that provides stability to the Texans offense, recording his 8th 100 yard rushing effort to go along with a TD this season.
Mixon and the Texans started the game slowly, scoring 0 points until just before the 2 min warning in the first half. Once the second half began, the Texans defense was able to force Chargers QB Justin Herbert into 4 interceptions and Mixon wore down the Chargers front and eventually put the final score on the board with his 3rd career postseason TD run.
The Texans will either travel to Kansas City next week or to Baltimore, if the Broncos upset the Bills today in Buffalo.

The Houston Texans had 3 players on offense and one defender selected to the prowl bowl for the 2024 NFL season.
On offense, wide receiver Nico Collins, running back Joe Mixon and tackle Laremy Tunsil have all been awarded a Pro Bowl spot. Collins has missed 5 games this year but still has an impressive 63 receptions for 968 yards and 6 touchdowns. He’s averaging 88 yards per game, 4th best in the NFL this year. Joe Mixon, who missed 3 games himself, has 240 carries for 993 rushing yards, 304 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns this season. Laremy Tunsil logged yet another stellar season at left tackle – he has only allowed 2 sacks, 3 hits, and 19 total pressures on the year.
From their defense, the Texans will send cornerback Derek Stingley to the Pro Bowl this year. Stingley has 5 interceptions, good for 6th best in the NFL and is 2nd in the league with 18 passes defended this season.

The Texans have leaned on their newly acquired running back as the offense struggles through injuries.
The Houston Texans are 12th in rush attempts on the year and 5th after Nico Collins went down. Joe Mixon is thriving as the heartbeat of the offense, posting a career high 21.4 points per game (ppr), good for 3rd best in the NFL. Mixon has over 100 total yards and a touchdown in all but his week 2 tilt against Chicago, a trend that is likely to continue week 10 at home vs the Lions.
The Lions have a top 7 rush defense in yards allowed this season, however they do give up 4.8 yards per carry, good for 6th worse. Teams have had to abandon the run early and often to keep up with the Lions league leading 32.3 points per game (38.5 last 4), however those who commit have seen success. Aaron Jones went over 100 total yards and a Touchdown and Ken Walker on similar yardage scored a hat trick.
Look for Houston to keep Mixon heavily involved this week whether Nico Collins is ready to return or not.

The top two running backs in Houston are both dealing with injuries, which puts Cam Akers in line for a large workload in week 3.
Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon suffered an ankle injury in week 2 against the Bears and hasn’t practiced this week. This leaves him trending to miss week 3. Dameon Pierce, second on the depth chart, missed week 2’s game with an injury himself, and also hasn’t practiced this week. This leaves Cam Akers as the next man up.
Fantasy managers should move to pick up Cam Akers now in case Mixon is not good to go Week 3. Akers himself has dealt with numerous injuries over the course of his career but looked solid in preseason action. Dare Ogunbowale is also on the Houston Texans roster and might get an increase in touches. However, Akers projects as the most likely candidate to handle early down & distance scenarios.
This is a murky situation, but Akers’ range of outcomes includes a volume RB2 fantasy output on a good Texans offense.
Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon suffered an ankle injury in Sunday’s game. The results of the MRI will determine Fantasy managers’ next steps.
Joe Mixon’s ankle came back clean from the MRI, but is questionable for Week 3. Fantasy managers would be sharp to pick up Cam Akers in case Mixon is not good to go Week 3.
The troubling part for this Texans backfield is that Dameon Pierce, second on the depth chart, missed week 2’s game With an injury himself, leaving Cam Akers as the next man up.
