Albert Okwuegbunam has agreed to a one-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles

After playing a small role in Philadelphia last season, Albert Okwuegbunam is set to return to the Eagles as depth behind Dallas Goedert. Once a dynasty fantasy football darling, Okwuegbunam quickly fell out of favor with the Broncos in 2022 and has struggled to earn playing time ever since. While he is the biggest name after Goedert on the depth chart, he remained inactive for most games in 2023.

Ultimately, Okwuegbunam should remain on fantasy football waiver wires despite his intriguing talent. Due to Dallas Goedert’s contract structure, he will likely remain on the team through 2025. Furthermore, Okwuegbunam wasn’t even his direct backup remaining outside the top three tight ends on the depth chart. He’s nothing but a stash in the deepest of dynasty fantasy football leagues.

Albert Okwuegbunam Traded to Philadelphia
8 months ago

The Denver Broncos have traded veteran tight end Albert Okwuegbunam to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Considered by some analysts to be a “breakout” tight end for the Denver Broncos in 2022, Albert Okwuegbunam’s time with the Denver Broncos has ended. On the day that NFL teams finalized their 53-man rosters in preparation for the 2023 season, the Broncos have traded “Albert O” to the Eagles for a sixth-round pick in 2025, according to Adam Schefter, via sources.

Okwuegbunam made a splash in the Broncos’ final preseason game catching 7 passes for 109 yards and a touchdown. The 4th-year tight end has been lauded for his athleticism and was generally regarded in fantasy circles as a prime breakout candidate in 2022 after the departure of current Seattle Seahawks TE, Noah Fant. He was being drafted as the 18th TE off the board last year and had an average draft position of 131 on Sleeper, placing him firmly in the 11th round of drafts. Following the performance of, then rookie, Greg Dulcich, the bloom was off the rose.

The move comes to the benefit of incumbent starter Dulcich and Adam Trautman, a player hand-picked by new Broncos head coach Sean Payton after playing for Payton in New Orleans over the last 3 seasons.

Okwuegbunam will back up Eagles TE1 Dallas Goedert and compete for snaps with Jack Stoll and Grant Calcaterra, dependent on the Eagles’ roster decisions.
