Stats & Vibes, Week 6 | The Merc, an Assassin & a Spartan

by Jon Machado · Featured

This Stats & Vibes Week 6 edition reads like a Comic-Con panel. First, there’s a receiver who keeps getting broken and keeps coming back. Then there’s a little guy nobody took seriously until he started wrecking defenses. Finally, a quarterback is dragging an entire franchise through the apocalypse by himself. Let’s see if the numbers back up the costumes.

Stats & Vibes | Week 6

Mike Evans | Deadpool

Let’s start with the guy who refuses to stay down. We need to check Weapon X’s archives, because Mike Evans appears to be Deadpool. You can beat the hell out of him and put him through absolute torture, but the bastard just keeps coming back.

The torture started early this year. During training camp, Evans dealt with a string of nagging injuries: quad strains, a groin flare-up, an ankle tweak, and a foot issue. Any one of those could linger for a 33-year-old receiver. Evans collected the whole set before September.

Once the season started, the injury report became his second home. He’s appeared on it in three of the first five weeks, first with a hip issue and then with his ribs. Every time, you’re stuck wondering if this is finally the end of the road. You’re refreshing the inactive list 90 minutes before kickoff with your stomach in knots. He’s the reason Sleeper’s auto-sub feature exists.

Before you know it, game time is here, and somehow he’s out there catching touchdowns. Despite everything, Evans hasn’t missed a game. Through five weeks, he has 24 catches for 326 yards and three touchdowns. Under the hood, the numbers look even better: a 75% route share, a 30.8% TPRR, and 3.05 YPRR. That’s alpha production from a guy who supposedly can’t stay healthy.

Last Sunday delivered the most Deadpool moment yet. Evans played through two broken ribs in the 49ers’ 32-29 win over Seattle. He caught seven passes for 113 yards and a touchdown — with two broken ribs. Most of us call out of work for a head cold. You could hear him screaming, “MAXIMUM EFFORT!” every time his number was called.

That’s what makes Evans so ridiculous. At this point, I’m not surprised when he gets banged up; I’m surprised when he doesn’t. Still, like Deadpool, he isn’t indestructible. He just has a stubborn streak that won’t let him stay down.

So keep starting him. Just keep a backup receiver on your bench, too, because one of these weeks the body might win the argument.

Parker Washington | Hit-Girl

From a guy everyone knows to a guy nobody saw coming. Remember the first time you saw Hit-Girl in Kick-Ass? A little kid in a purple wig shows up, and you figure she’s comic relief. Then she clears out a room full of armed thugs.

Parker Washington gives off that same first impression. He’s 5’10” and 204 pounds, he ran a 4.54 40, and he even sounds a little funny when he talks. Nothing about that screams alpha receiver. If you were building one from scratch, he probably isn’t your starting template.

Parker Washington‘s Advanced Metrics

His college résumé didn’t help his case, either. At Penn State, he never topped a 20% target share or a 1,000-yard season. He finished with a 22.4% dominator rating. That’s a solid prospect, but hardly a future star.

He even underwhelmed through his first couple of years in the league, when he produced 48 catches, 522 yards, and five touchdowns combined. By then, most of us had stopped paying attention.

Then the little dude started cooking people. In 2025, his third season, he broke out with 58 catches, 847 yards, and five scores. (Third-year breakouts are so back.)

This year, it’s starting to look like the real thing. Washington is on pace for 75 catches, 1,200 yards, and 14 touchdowns. Better yet, the usage backs it up. He’s running a route on 96% of dropbacks, so he basically never leaves the field. Meanwhile, he’s earning a target on 24.1% of his routes and averaging 2.57 yards per route run. That’s how a team’s top receiver produces, not a slot gadget.

That’s the thing with Parker. Maybe he doesn’t look the part. At some point, though, you have to stop judging the packaging and pay attention to the player. Like Hit-Girl, you might laugh when you first see him. However, you won’t be laughing for long.

Josh Allen | Master Chief

Finally, we get to a guy who doesn’t need anyone to take him seriously. He just needs some help. Master Chief always gets dropped into the worst possible situation. The ship is going down, the Covenant is everywhere, and somehow it’s on him to save humanity. Josh Allen plays that role every Sunday.

Just look at how lopsided this offense is. Allen accounts for a third of the Bills’ fantasy points this season. For comparison, the next quarterback on that list, Brock Purdy, accounts for about a quarter of San Francisco’s. Buffalo’s offense runs through one guy, and everybody knows it.

The passing numbers look as they always do for him. He’s on pace for 4,250 yards and 24 touchdowns. The legs, however, are where things get silly. Allen is on pace for 812 rushing yards and 27 rushing touchdowns. For context, LaDainian Tomlinson holds the single-season record with 28. LT was a running back; Allen plays quarterback.

Monday night against the Rams showed exactly how this works. The defense can’t hold up? Josh has to make a play. The offense stalls out? Josh puts the team on his back. He led everyone on the field with 121 rushing yards and a touchdown. Then, with the game on the line, Allen ripped off two big runs on Buffalo’s final overtime possession helped set up the game-winning field goal. Halo players would call that beating the game on Legendary.

So why does the UNSC have to bring Master Chief out of cryosleep? Look around him. D.J. Moore can’t stay on the field. Meanwhile, Dalton Kincaid is stuck in Joe Brady’s “we gotta get him more involved” purgatory. The receiving corps isn’t giving him enough help.

Even Master Chief had Cortana in his ear. Allen’s fighting the same war in Buffalo, except the aliens are opposing defenses and the apocalypse is another playoff heartbreak. That 27-touchdown pace won’t hold, and the hits will keep piling up. Even so, he’s the safest bet at the position as long as he’s standing.

Give this man some backup, though. He can’t keep saving the universe every Sunday.
