Week 11 Fantasy Football Trades: What to Do With Jordan Addison, TreVeyon Henderson, Bucky Irving

Fantasy Football Trade Advice Week 11

Trading in fantasy football is an important way to make your team better. However, it is also the only controllable way to make other teams worse. In theory, great fantasy football trades optimize the rosters of both teams involved, leaving non-trading teams behind. This series will help to provide some useful tips on players to “buy” and “sell” in trades. It will also provide the proper context to determine when trading for or trading away a specific player makes sense for your squad. For a player to be involved in a trade, there needs to be a market for that player. Unlike your typical “trade for” and “trade away” articles that are geared toward taking advantage of less-informed league mates, this series will consider team context to determine whether you should buy or sell a popular player in the trade market. Let’s take a look at three popular players for Week 11: Jordan Addison, TreVeyon Henderson, and Bucky Irving.

Week 11 Fantasy Football Trade Advice

On the block: WR Jordan Addison, Minnesota Vikings

Reason to Buy: Great ROS schedule

Jordan Addison is coming off his worst fantasy football performance of the season, scoring only 6.5 fantasy points in Week 10 despite seeing 11 targets. However, better times are likely ahead, as the Vikings’ rest of the season schedule is fantasy-friendly for wide receivers. From Week 14 onward, Addison plays the Commanders, the Cowboys, the Giants, and the Lions, all teams that have been susceptible to letting up lots of fantasy points to the wide receiver position. If you are cruising to the playoffs and looking for a nice player to insert into your lineup once you get there, this is a good buy-low opportunity to acquire Addison.

Reason to Sell: J.J. McCarthy Struggles

Addison has failed to crest double-digit fantasy points with J.J. McCarthy under center. The sophomore quarterback has played worse than Carson Wentz this season. While his development as a passer will likely continue, it’s hard to bank on development as you get closer to the fantasy playoffs. Averaging only 6.4 yards per attempt, McCarthy is playing like a dink and dunk quarterback, which is not conducive to his receivers scoring fantasy points.  Even with a better schedule ahead, McCarthy likely lacks the tools to exploit it. Selling Addison for an upside RB play that could be a league winner come playoff time may turn out to be a prudent move.

On the block: RB TreVeyon Henderson, New England Patriots

Reason to Buy: Potential League Winner

TreVeyon Henderson exploded last week, scoring 28 fantasy points, finishing as the RB4 on the week. With Rhamondre Stevenson out for the past two weeks, Henderson has seized the RB1 role in New England, averaging 18 touches in the past two games. He has also averaged 20 fantasy points per game during this two-week sample. It will be hard to put the cat back in the bag even when Stevenson returns. Buying high now may look like a league-winning move with the Patriots’ rest of the season schedule.

Reason to Sell: Mike Vrabel and Rhamondre Stevenson

Despite spending a second-round pick on TreVeyon Henderson, the Patriots were reluctant to make him the focal point of the running game until Rhamondre Stevenson injured his toe and was forced to miss games. While Henderson has been excellent during Stevenson’s time away from the field, head coach Mike Vrabel may just reinsert Stevenson as the starter upon his return from injury. A scenario where Henderson and Rhamondre cancel each other out in a committee would also stymy the league-winner narrative surrounding Henderson. If you are on the outside looking into a potential playoff run, selling high for a less volatile asset might make sense.

On the block: RB Bucky Irving, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Reason to Buy: Hopeful for a playoff return

Bucky Irving injured his foot in Week 4 and has not been active since. The Buccaneers declined to place him on injured reserve, which suggested that he would be active prior to Week 8. However, here we are entering Week 11, and Bucky Irving has yet to return. The Buccaneers have no reason to rush back Irving as they have a solid lead in the division. He does, however, make a good speculative trade acquisition for teams that are a lock for the fantasy playoffs with the hopes that he is activated come playoff time. He also makes for a good target for teams needing a real Hail Mary to make the playoffs. Irving did average 18 fantasy points per game through the first four weeks of the season and will be a set-and-forget RB1 upon his return.

Reason to Sell: No Timetable to Return

Injuries can be ambiguous. Most teams have nothing to gain by being straightforward with injuries to the public. While Irving returned to practice today in a limited capacity it is anyone’s guess when Irving returns to game action. Selling Irving to get fantasy points now can make sense for a team currently on the outside looking in at the fantasy football playoffs.
