Keon Coleman is currently fighting for scraps in a WR3 rotation with Josh Palmer while DJ Moore and Khalil Shakir soak up the actual high-value volume in Buffalo. The Bills are holding onto him for depth, but don’t get it twisted: the “Year 3 Breakout” is a fairy tale for a guy who hasn’t shown he can win consistently against NFL secondaries.

Coleman is effectively a roster-clogger masquerading as a prospect, and the opportunity metrics are screaming that his ceiling is permanently capped. Coleman is a classic “sell-low” candidate as his value is built on historical draft capital. Savvy dynasty managers are moving him for a mid-to-late rookie pick(s), or a more productive veteran, before the Bills inevitably draft his replacement and his market price hits zero.

The Buffalo Bills lost some ground in the AFC East race as they fell to the Houston Texans, but James Cook and Khalil Shakir continued to deliver. Cook carried 17 times for 116 yards and a touchdown plus three catches for another 13 yards, while Shakir topped 100 receiving yards for the first time this year and a season high eight receptions.

Cook and Shakir performed up to expectations but they were the only Bills who did, Josh Allen cleared 250 passing yards but threw two interceptions, no other skill player caught more than three passes or had more than 45 yards from scrimmage.

Cook and Shakir are the only safe fantasy options on the Bills roster, besides Allen who’s the best fantasy quarterback, and they delivered despite to the loss and difficult matchup.

Khalil Shakir returned to practice last Wednesday after dealing with a high-ankle sprain suffered in early August. The Bills held him out about a month to allow him to rest the ankle as much as possible.

High ankle sprains typically have a four to six week recovery time and can linger throughout the season. Shakir suffering the injury so early in August will have allowed him approximately five weeks to heal before the season starts.

Shakir will likely have to shake off some rust but will retain his slot role and has been Josh Allen’s most reliable target in recent years.
