The Pittsburgh Steelers drafted a satellite-plus weapon at No. 230 in Eli Heidenreich, who pairs a rock-solid 27.5 BMI with a 44.5% College Target Share (100th-percentile) that nearly breaks the standard prospect model. Heidenreich is a verified metric unicorn who averaged a massive 6.5 College Yards Per Carry while generating a dominant 18.5 Yards Per Reception at Navy, generating frequent comps to Christian McCaffrey.

For dynasty players, consider Heidenreich a late round flier that could be interesting should if there were to be some injuries in the Steelers’ backfield, particularly to Jaylen Warren.

Kyle Shanahan is finally acknowledging the truth: McCaffrey’s past usage is unsustainable. This admission is years in the making as San Francisco must dial back the “wear and tear” on the greatest fantasy asset of our generation.

The legendary 90-percent snap share is a 2026 pipe dream, opening the door for a backfield committee that would surely throttle McCaffrey’s weekly floor. By clicking that button in the early first round expecting the same historic workload, fantasy gamers are ignoring some rare coach straight talk and walking straight into a high-priced efficiency trap.

The 49ers won in thrilling last second fashion 42-38 over the Chicago Bears. Brock Purdy and Christian McCaffrey delivered epic performances.

Purdy sits as the QB1 on the week with 5 combined touchdowns and 303 passing yards. McCaffrey delivered 28.1 fantasy points. He had a 23-240-1 rushing line and went 4-41 receiving. The shootout was good on the Bears side as Luther Burden and Colston Loveland finished as the WR1 and TE2 respectively (pending MNF).  With both teams playoff bound, a rematch will be a ratings hit!

Perhaps it is the weight of carrying the 49ers to a 9-4 record this season that caused him to pop on the injury report with a back injury, but sources state that McCaffrey should be “good to go” on Sunday.

After health scares last year, CMC has bounced back in a significant way and once again shown fantasy managers he is a cheat code. On the season, he has 237 carries for 849 yards and eight touchdowns, while adding 85 receptions, 806 yards and five touchdowns through the air and currently sits as the running back one. If you had faith and drafted him highly, you have been rewarded in your investment, as the 49ers have faced numerous injuries to their stars, and McCaffrey carried the team both on the field and on your fantasy rosters. However, if you are in your playoffs and do not have a trade deadline, acquiring Brian Robinson Jr. would be in your best interests if the back injury becomes an issue.

Even at age 29 Christian McCaffrey remains one of the elite running backs in the league, he proved it once again with 81 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries and another 40 yards and one score on five receptions.

While injuries and age have sapped some of his explosiveness, his longest run for the season was the 20 yarder he had against the Arizona Cardinals, his dual threat ability, instincts and vision are still second to none. Brian Robinson Jr. carried eight times for 24 yards.

Robinson Jr. will continue to rotate in to spell McCaffrey but this remains McCaffrey’s backfield and he remains a locked in running back one for fantasy managers.

The 49ers have been beleaguered by injury in 2025. Wide receiver Ricky Pearsall has been out since Week 4 with a sprained PCL.

Fantasy managers are in a tough spot as Pearsall was crushing early in the season. While Pearsall is a tough hold, he must be left in the IR spot as he will surely crush the moment he is active. With starting quarterback up in the air between Mac Jones and Brock Purdy possibly returning, roll out and trust Christian McCaffrey and George Kittle. Anything else is entering risky territory.
