Trey Sermon Joins Steelers on One-Year Deal After Tryout
1 month ago

Veteran running back Trey Sermon was invited to the Steelers’ rookie minicamp on a tryout basis, and then signed with the team.

Trey Sermon has joined his fourth team, entering his fifth season in the NFL. Initially drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft, Sermon started two games due to injuries and saw limited action in 7 others. He was released by the Niners right before the 2022 season and subsequently claimed by the Eagles. Sermon saw limited action in two games before being waived/injured by Philadelphia to start 2023. After reverting to IR, weeks later, he was waived.

The Indianapolis Colts signed the running back to the practice squad a week after being let go by the Eagles. Sermon saw limited action in 31 of a possible 34 games, starting three. The Oklahoma and Ohio State product has another chance with the Steelers, albeit on a one-year “prove it” deal for the 26-year-old.

Sermon is a journeyman depth running back with almost zero fantasy value. Injuries are his only shot at making an impact, and he failed to keep the job in previous opportunities. He is at best a waiver option in the case of mass running back injuries.
