Saquon Barkley Set to Hit Free Agency

The New York Giants won’t franchise star RB Saquon Barkley

After six NFL seasons the former top 5 pick will hit free agency for the first time in his career. After ultimately agreeing on a one-year contract last offseason, the Giants won’t franchise Saquon Barkley at a $12 million-plus price tag. While the Giants are open to signing Barkley long term, he will be able to negotiate with other teams.

Barkley has been fantastic when he has been on the field for the Giants, but injuries and a bad offense have limited him throughout his career. At 27 years of age as well, Barkley is well past his peak value in dynasty fantasy football leagues. He has also struggled to be able to churn consistent yards, relying on the big play far too often. Nonetheless, Barkley is still a supreme talent with one or two great seasons left in him if he lands in the right spot.

The most exciting teams interested in Barkley include the Ravens, Chargers, and Texans. Any of these destinations would make him a top 5 fantasy football running back in 2024. Given the landscape at running back and his age, Barkley’s value in dynasty leagues is only on a year-to-year basis. Additionally, there is a very strong possibility he returns to the Giants. Because of this uncertainty, he is a fringe RB1 in dynasty leagues and worth a mid to late first round pick.
