The Vikings are in last place of the NFC North and are hoping to get J.J. McCarthy back for Week 9 against the Lions. There have been murmurings of a soft benching and the verity of his ankle injury has come into question by some.
Head coach Kevin O’Connell has expressed sentiments that he wants McCarthy to be fully healthy when returning. The Vikings appear to be taking a long term approach with their franchise quarterback. The next 4 matchups include the Lions, Ravens, Bears, and Packers. There are no let-ups on the Vikings schedule. From a fantasy point of view, McCarthy would only be startable as a 2nd quarterback in superflex leagues upon returning.
