Brandin Cooks status ahead of week two is uncertain as he deals with a sprained MCL
Brandin Cooks suffered a sprained MCL in the Cowboys’ week one win against the New York Giants. While his status remains uncertain, this is typically a three to four week injury. Cooks is likely going to miss time and he very well could be placed on injured reserve.
Moving forward, the next man up for the Dallas Cowboys will be five-year NFL veteran Michael Gallup. He ran the same amount of routes as Cooks in week two, but now he will take on a much larger role. Fantasy managers may forget that Gallup accumulated 1,950 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns between the 2019 and 2020 seasons. However, a knee injury he suffered in 2021 hampered his production into 2022. Now fully healthy, Gallup has an opportunity to prove himself and will be a borderline WR3 until Cooks returns.
This likely will mean a small bump in targets for Jake Ferguson as well. While he only had two catches for eleven yards in week one, Ferguson was targeted by Dak Prescott seven times. He isn’t on the fantasy radar yet, but could develop as a streaming option later in the season. For Prescott, this puts a small damper on his outlook but expect better fantasy days as the Cowboys didn’t throw much in a lopsided affair. Nonetheless, he may be more of a high-end QB2 in a tough matchup against the New York Jets in week two.
