Clyde Edwards-Helaire Released by Chiefs After 5 Seasons
Clyde Edwards-Helaire’s time with the Kansas City Chiefs has come to an end after five seasons. The Chiefs released the former first-round pick on Monday, marking the conclusion of his tenure with the team. Edwards-Helaire had an impressive rookie campaign, tallying 1,100 scrimmage yards and five touchdowns, but his role significantly diminished over the following seasons. By 2022, he lost his starting job to rookie Isiah Pacheco, and over the past two years, he made just nine starts in 25 games.
The 25-year-old’s 2024 season never materialized, as he spent most of the year on the NFI/Reserve list dealing with PTSD and cyclical vomiting syndrome. He was activated in October but didn’t see any action on the field. Despite the struggles, Edwards-Helaire expressed gratitude toward the Chiefs and their fans, reflecting on his time in Kansas City and two Super Bowl victories. The former LSU star’s future in the NFL is now uncertain as he looks to move past his health issues.
