The Cleveland Browns placed All-Pro running back Nick Chubb on injured reserve, effectively ending his season, per Adam Schefter.
Chubb spent this offseason rehabbing a gruesome, multi-ligament knee injury sustained early last season. He began the season on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, missing the Browns’ first six games of 2024 before returning. Now, just eight games into his comeback, Chubb’s season is officially done. He suffered a broken foot during the Browns loss at home on Sunday against the Chiefs.
Since returning to the lineup in week seven, Chubb’s production has been underwhelming compared to what we’ve grown used to. He saw his rushing efficiency dip below five yards per carry for the first time, averaging a career-low 3.25 yards per carry. Chubb was held to under 60 yards from scrimmage in each of his eight appearances this season.
Barring a major comeback in 2025, Chubb is seemingly past his prime. The once-great tailback’s fall from grace can be attributed to injuries. Through the first five seasons of his career, Chubb accumulated over 6,000 rushing yards, four consecutive Pro Bowl selections, and one All-Pro selection in 2022. Since then, the soon-to-be 29-year-old running back has sustained season-ending injuries in back-to-back seasons. He’ll look to find his grove again next year.
