The New England Patriots waived backup QB Bailey Zappe.
In a surprising move, the Patriots cut backup QB Bailey Zappe despite performing admirably in limited duties last season. Zappe, the last pick in the fourth round of 2022’s NFL draft from Western Kentucky achieved cult status after leading the Patriots to back-to-back wins off the bench last year. There was even speculation this offseason that Zappe could contend for the starting job after outperforming Mac Jones last season in Completion Rate, Passer Rating, Yards Per Attempt, EPA/Attempt, and EPA/Dropback.
The move by Bill Belichick sends a clear message that the Pats are Mac Jones’ team and he can be drafted as a starting QB, viable in Superflex leagues as a high-end QB3.
