Swift can continue to showcase his dynamic rushing and pass-catching playmaking abilities for 2nd year HC Ben Johnson, and be a key factor in this high-octane offense that Ben Johnson wants to obliterate NFL records with.
This is all music to the ears for fantasy football gamers heading into Week 1, especially in lieu of Swift’s recent health jump-scare in practice last week. Swift was quite a value in seasonal-redraft this year due to the presence of second year back Kyle Monangai depressing Swift’s ADP. Chicago Tribune’s Sean Hammond reported that Rome Odunze left practice due to an apparent injury to his right leg, not related to the left foot injury he sustained last season. According to Hammond, Odunze “wan’t overly concerned” and even tried to continue practicing, but Bears trainers removed him from the field for precautionary measures. Shortly after, The Athletic’s Dan Wiederer reported that Odunze “should be all good after leaving today’s practice.”
Meanwhile, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that while D’Andre Swift left practice with “serious discomfort,” he was later revealed to be experiencing a cramp. The NFL season cannot start soon enough.
Bears head coach Ben Johnson classifying Kyle Monangai as “week-to-week” with a hyperextended knee aligns with initial reports expecting a significant camp absence. Coming off an efficient campaign highlighted by 537 Yards Created (No. 36) and a 21.4-percent Juke Rate (No. 34) on a 41.5-percent Opportunity Share (No. 41), Monangai’s early-season workload is now at significant risk.
D’Andre Swift is now in-line for bell cow touches in September, and Roschon Johnson is poised to secure a breather back role. While Monangai’s dynasty appeal remains in-tact, he will be dropping outside the Top-50 running backs on PlayerProfiler’s seasonal fantasy football rankings.
Early-camp absences often mean little, but Kyle Monangai missing consecutive practices raises legitimate concern, as he is the sole non-PUP or NFI player sidelined for Chicago. Monangai carved out a role in his rookie campaign behind a 41.5-percent Opportunity Share (No. 41 among RBs) while generating 2.87 Yards Created Per Touch.
Prolonged missed reps stall his momentum in camp, making his health status critical to monitor heading into the season. Roschon Johnson is the next man up in Chicago and should be rostered in deep dynasty league formats given the TD equity available in Chicago’s high-octane offense.

Running Back D’Andre Swift has had an inconsistent fantasy and actual career so far. His ability to be an explosive player is there, but his only 1,000-yard rushing season came in 2023 with the Eagles. One could argue that his pass-catching ability is his strong suit. His career low of 39 catches came in that lone season with the Eagles. Coming off of his first year in Chicago, he scraped his potential on the bottom in yards per carry at 3.8.
Nothing worked well for the Bears’ offense in 2024. Then, in comes Ben Johnson as head coach after being the offensive coordinator for Detroit the last several years, whose offense has flourished. Look for Johnson to breathe some life into an offense that should have never been as stagnant as it was. Since Chicago did not add any significant players at running back, Swift looks to be a big winner of the Ben Johnson hire. It also helps that they were together in Detroit for a short while, so they are familiar with each other. The head coach has already been singing Swift’s praises in OTAs.
D’Andre Swift can be a top 10 back; he just needs the opportunity and to be more consistent. Ben Johnson’s offense will be very creative in getting the ball to the team’s best playmakers, Swift will be the foundation of the running game and a large part of the receiving out of the backfield. Looks for him to have the Jamyr Gibbs-style role in this offense. He has the chance to show he is one of the best backs in the league this year. He is currently a steal at an ADP of RB35 in drafts, which is criminally low for the top back in a Johnson-coached offense. D’Andre Swift is the perfect zero RB option in fantasy, should you choose that strategy.

Former Eagles running back D’Andre Swift has signed a 3-year deal with the Chicago Bears, joining forces with their new offensive coordinator, Shane Waldron. Swift, who had a standout season with the Eagles, earning him this reward, now has the opportunity to become the lead back for the Bears. He’ll no longer have to share goal-line carries, as he did in Philadelphia’s offense.
At 25, Swift is already on his third team in five years. Despite this, he boasts impressive stats, with over 1000 yards rushing and an average of 4.58 yards per carry. Additionally, he recorded 39 receptions and scored a total of 6 touchdowns last season. Notably, he was tackled at the 1-yard line an unusual number of times with the Eagles. With his skillset, expect Swift to take on a prominent role as the lead back in the Bears’ new offensive scheme.
