Veteran WR D.J. Chark joins thin receiver room amid questions about Darnell Mooney’s status.
The Falcons are signing veteran WR D.J. Chark to a one-year deal, per Ian Rapoport. The move comes one day after Darnell Mooney left practice following a diving attempt on a deep ball. While the team hasn’t provided an update on Mooney, the timing of the signing suggests Atlanta is preparing for the possibility he misses time.
Chark, 28, adds another big-bodied target (6’3″) and deep threat for second year QB Michael Penix Jr. He appeared in seven games for the Chargers last season, recording just four catches but scoring once. Chark had multiple visits with teams this offseason before finally landing in Atlanta.
It’s not a great sign for Mooney’s health, but the Falcons already needed depth behind their starting wideouts. Chark helps bolster a thin receiver room that’s already seen tight end Kyle Pitts working primarily with the group in camp. Mooney’s status is definitely something to keep an eye on.

D.J. Chark is a sneaky wide receiver in a Chargers passing game that is being widely faded in fantasy football.
Chargers wide receiver D.J. Chark is running with the 1’s in training camp. This is welcome news to UnderDog drafters who have been selecting D.J. Chark late in drafts.
D.J. Chark is going off the board as WR-83 on UnderDog. Chark is a sneaky selection in round 17. The Chargers are expected to run the ball plenty in the Greg Roman offense, however there is value to mine in the Chargers passing game. For those who are out on the cost of Ladd McConkey at the 6-7 turn, Chark provides safety late in drafts. The benefit of selecting Chark is he will enter your best ball lineup multiple times in the WR-3 and flex spot as your 7th rostered wide receiver and beyond.
Recall that with the Jaguars when Dede Westbrook was supposed to breakout it was D.J. Chark, who was the wide receiver fantasy gamers wanted. When Jameson Williams was supposed to make his immediate mark in the NFL, it was D.J. Chark who stole rosterable weeks as an X receiver. Take advantage of the round 17 price on UnderDog and get those D.J. Chark numbers up.
Panthers Rule Out WR DJ Chark Week 1 with a hamstring Injury
Panthers have ruled out WR DJ Chark for their week 1 matchup with the Atlanta Falcons with a hamstring injury. Adam Thielen will be listed as questionable with an ankle injury.
The #1 overall pick, Bryce Young, is set to debut this weekend without one of his top pass catchers. The Panthers are playing against division rival, the Atlanta Falcons. With Chark out, we expect to see Adam Thielen, fellow rookie Jonathon Mingo, and Tight End Hayden Hurst pick up the slack. Bryce Young played in three preseason games and went 14/24 for 129 yards and one touchdown. His favorite targets during the preseason were Thielen and Mingo. Thielen had seven targets and caught a touchdown. Mingo had five targets. The Falcons with be without one of their top cornerbacks, Jeff Okudah. Okudah has been ruled out with an ankle injury.
If you are in a pitch and need some production in week one I would strongly consider adding the veteran Adam Thielen or rookie Jonahon Mingo.
