Patriots Wide Receiver Depth Chart Shaping UP
4 months ago

The New England Patriots are putting their wide receiver depth chart in order early on in training camp.

The New England Patriots depth chart is shaping up and the positional battles appear straight forward. Kayshon Boutte and Kyle Williams at X, Stefon Diggs and Kendrick Bourne at Z, and then Demario Douglas and Efton Chism III in the slot.

It’s interesting that Boutte is listed ahead of Kyle Williams at the X spot, Williams has been drawing rave reviews early on in camp and will likely surpass Boutte eventually. Mack Hollins, Ja’Lynn Polk and Javon Baker are competing for roster spots.

Diggs is the first Patriots wide receiver off the board usually in the seventh round, Williams and Douglas follow well into the 100s, the remaining wide receivers are mostly undrafted. As training camp progresses, expect Williams to earn a starting spot resulting in his price rising in drafts.

Stefon Diggs Good to Go

The Patriots cleared wide receiver Stefon Diggs for practice.

Wide receiver Stefon Diggs has been cleared to practice just as the New England Patriots opened training camp. Diggs is coming off of a torn ACL that he suffered in week 8 last season.

The Patriots signed Diggs in free agency expecting him to be their lead wide receiver this year, him being able to participate at the beginning of training camp is a great sign.

Diggs has been the first Patriots pass catcher off the board for the whole offseason, typically somewhere in the seventh round. Now with news that he’s cleared to practice concerns about his knee could begin to subside and his price should rise.

Stefon Diggs Avoids PUP List

Patriots WR Stefon Diggs avoids PUP designation.

Newly signed Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs has avoided the PUP List after much speculation that he’d start the season on it. Diggs tore his ACL in Week 8 of the 2024 season while playing for the Houston Texans.

Now landing with the Patriots, Diggs looks to be the WR1 of the offense which hasn’t boasted a strong group of wideouts in past years. If Diggs is healthy, he immediately becomes the primary target for star QB Drake Maye. We have seen flashes of a high ceiling for Drake Maye, but having a veteran presence who scored as a WR1 4 years consecutively before injury, Diggs could significantly raise the floor on the sophomore QB. For a franchise with significant turnover, Diggs not being placed on the PUP List brings relief as the front office tries to turn the franchise in the right direction.

As Diggs and Maye establish chemistry in camp, the production will follow. The value fantasy managers acquired from Diggs will be a massive win.

Patriots Radio: Diggs Could Get Cut

New England Patriots radio analyst Scott Zolak has heard that cutting newly acquired free agent WR Stefon Diggs is “on the table.”

This is classic wide receiver diva spiraling. While probably noise, the fact that Diggs landed in Houston just one offseason ago surrounded with controversy doesn’t help his reputation. Recently Diggs was video recorded on a boat surrounded by scantily clad women sharing an unknown substance. Beat reporters have been inconsistent with their estimated timeline for Diggs as he recovers from a torn ACL suffered in October of 2024.

Diggs signed a 3-year, $63M deal with the Patriots. New England had looked to upgrade the WR1 role to support QB Drake Maye’s development. However, Vrabel’s reaction to the controversial Diggs video indicated that the Patriots are serious about reclaiming a locker room.

Scott Zolak’s comments about cutting Diggs not only stem from the video but also from things he’s heard from sources regarding Diggs’ attitude of being “all-in.” However, videos have surfaced recently of Diggs making good cuts and running with agility as he recovers from the ACL tear.

Diggs is currently being drafted outside the Top-40 of Wide receivers in most fantasy football formats.

Stefon Diggs Practicing at Patriots OTAs

The newly acquired Patriots veteran receiver was seen without a brace at practice, just 7 months after the ACL tear that ended his 2025 season

Stefon Diggs isn’t guaranteed to be ready for his first game as a Patriot, however his practice participation is a great sign of this being a possibility. Diggs really took his career to another level for three years in Buffalo, finishing as a top 10 receiver in fantasy points per game and building on 6 consecutive 1000 yard seasons. After just a half season with Houston, Diggs will now be looking to get back to elite production in the back end of his career.

New England is desperate for receiver help, and really any offensive talent for that matter. The team finished dead last in passing yards and second to last in passing touchdowns in the NFL last season. Drake Maye will have a year under his belt now, and the offense landed Stefon Diggs and TreVeyon Henderson, plus O-line help in both free agency and the draft. Diggs could be a true spark plug for this franchise turnaround. As long as his health permits, he should be the primary focus of the passing attack – don’t be surprised if he has a season reminiscent of his time with Josh Allen.

Stefon Diggs ADP on Underdog is Rising

Stefon Diggs ADP on Underdog is making a Patriotic rise!

The New England Patriots have been exhaustive in their pursuit of free agent wide receivers. The Patriots finally secured some talent for Drake Maye in the form of 4-time Pro Bowl wideout Stefon Diggs.

This will surely help in a 2nd year spike for quarterback Drake Maye. There has been a noticeable spike on Underdog for Stefon Diggs. Since March 20th, Stefon Diggs has gone from WR-58 to WR-55 with a 14.4 spot rise in ADP! Diggs is now going at the 9-10 turn on Underdog and will surely cement himself into the single digits as the calendar wears on.

Prior to a season ending torn ACL in Week 8, Stefon Diggs registered 4 top-15 wide receiver games with 15.2 fantasy points per game. Diggs will be 31 in 2025, but it will be difficult to stay away from him due to the fact that he is tied to Drake Maye. Drake Maye truthers alone will cause a further surge in ADP for Stefon Diggs.
