Johnny Wilson was a four-star recruit that joined Arizona State as a member of their 2020 recruiting class. During the pandemic season in 2020, Wilson appeared in three of four games, finishing third on the team in receptions and fifth in receptions. A hamstring injury the following season cost him the remainder of his season after four games. He would finish the season with averages of 3.0 receptions for 38.5 receiving yards.
The coach responsible for recruiting Wilson to Arizona State was placed on administrative leave and Wilson opted to leave Arizona State as a result. He would join Florida State for the 2022 season. Florida State ranked 16th in scoring offense in 2022 and Wilson led the team in receptions (43), receiving yards (897) and receiving touchdowns (5). His 20.9 yards per reception finished second in the NCAA.
