The Chargers have selected Michigan WR Cornelius Johnson with the 253th pick of the 2024 NFL Draft.

Cornelius Johnson is back with his college head coach after being drafted in the 7th round of the draft by the Chargers.

Johnson played for the National Champs Michigan Wolverines in college.  In his last season he started in 14 games where he posted 7 catches for 604 yards and one touchdown.  In an offense that preferred to run the ball more than pass he put up solid numbers and was an Honorable Mention All-Big Ten Conference.  He can help on special teams too, in 2021 he tied for second in the FBS with most blocked punts.

Johnson has a big frame standing at 6’2″ and 212 pounds.  At the NFL Combine he posted a 4.4 40-yard dash, jumped 37.5″ vertical, and a broad jump of 10’7″.  With his big frame he can catch the ball at the high point and can help out in the red zone being a big target.

He will have to look for some playing time as most likely special teams but knowing the Chargers system will come in handy for a chance to play for a depleted wide receiver room.
