Trey Knox
South Carolina Tight End Trey Knox Has Ho-Hum Combine
10 months ago

Trey Knox didn’t run the 40-yard dash because of a hamstring pull, but was average, otherwise.

University of South Carolina tight end Trey Knox has an uphill battle to fantasy relevance. The former wide receiver and Arkansas Razorback was one of 5 Gamecocks sent to the NFL Scouting Combine, and his performance was average. Knox, who will be 23 as a rookie did not run the 40 because of a hamstring issue, and unfortunately for him, the 40 time is the most corollary stat for TE performance in the NFL.

Knox’s other measurables were okay but not mind-blowing. At 6’3″, Knox is more of a tweener as a prospect, small for a TE but too big to be considered a WR. His 3-cone drill time was competitive at 7.09 seconds, placing him 4th among all participants, but his 32.5 inch vertical jump ranked 9th and alludes to a lack of explosiveness. He posted a 10′ 1″ broad jump and while that was not bad, it wasn’t quite as competitive as his 3-cone time.

If Knox doesn’t post a great 40 time at his pro-day, expect Knox to be drafted in the later rounds of the NFL Draft and keep an eye on his depth chart position throughout his career. It may be some time before Knox is fantasy relevant.
