Quinshon Judkins had his formal misdemeanor domestic violence and battery charges dropped by prosecutors in South Florida. The Broward State Attorney’s Office declined to charge Judkins, who was arrested on July 12. The alleged incident occurred five days prior, but was not reported until that day. The Office stated that a thorough investigation, including photos, body cameras, phone calls, police reports, and video surveillance, turned up no significant evidence of the supposed assault.
The result came as a relief to both the former Ohio State star as well as the Cleveland Browns, who drafted Judkins No. 36 overall in this year’s NFL Draft. The team had delayed his signing until the situation was resolved, and will now look to expedite the process. Late last month, team owner Jimmy Haslam said that he was “cautiously optimistic” that the second-round pick would play for the Browns this season.
Each day as the investigation unfolded, Judkins’ fantasy football average draft position (ADP) continually waned from above 80 down to 152.7 today. In many running back-heavy redraft and best ball formats, the tailback was often reached for early before the news came out.
With the latest news, Judkins’ ADP will surely vault up, even as the NFL maintains that they are still investigating. With the dropped charges and almost no sign of evidence, it’s unlikely for the league to get involved. Fantasy managers should return to taking the running back off the board in the sixth or seventh round of 12-man drafts to ensure his services. Whether he misses the first several games remains to be seen, but likely will go unrevealed until most drafts are complete.
