Matthew Stafford becomes subject of trade rumors

Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford has become the subject of trade rumors.

Super Bowl-winning quarterback Matthew Stafford recently entered the post-season news cycle as the subject of trade rumors.  The 37-year-old former number 1 overall selection has 2 years left on his contract, a deal that he restructured that gives him less guaranteed money in 2025 and 2026.

Adam Schefter spoke on Pat Leonard’s podcast, Talking Ball, and stated that the Rams priority is to work out an extension with Stafford.  While Schefter threw water on the growing trade rumor flames, he did say it would be possible if the pair couldn’t come to terms they may explore a trade.  The only thing Schefter did rule out was that one of the potential suitors, the New York Giants would NOT  trade the #3 overall pick in a deal for Stafford.

Stafford got off to a slow start in 2024, mostly due to injuries to his offensive line and wide receivers Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua.  He finished the season with 3762 yards, 20 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions.  He is a QB2 for fantasy that offers negligble production on the ground, so he will have to throw over 30 touchdowns to ascend back into QB1 status.
