Kirk Cousins Claims Being Injured Led to the Falcons Benching Him
3 weeks ago

The record on the Falcons shift at quarterback in 2024 is being cleared as the offseason unfolds.

It has now come out that Kirk Cousins was injured during the 2024 NFL season. In an article in The Athletic by Josh Kendall it was mentioned that Cousins claimed he was dealing with a shoulder and elbow injury in the back half of the season.

Cousins got hurt in week 10, but was only on the injury report for one week. NFL teams are always playing with a gray area when it comes to disclosing injury. It sounds like the Falcons front office is being caught off guard with Kirk Cousins proclamation.

As far as on field performance, Kirk Cousins was QB-21 last season. While the Falcons may not love Cousins claiming injury after the fact the season occurred it may end up being beneficial as far as leveraging for a future trade to offload Kirk Cousins. Cousins may have opened the window for other NFL teams to inquire about him for a trade. What is known is that Michael Penix Jr. will be the Atlanta Falcons starting quarterback in 2025 and should be drafted as such.
