Joshua Dobbs
Journeyman Josh Dobbs Finds New Home in San Francisco
10 months ago

The 49ers have agreed to a one-year deal with veteran QB Josh Dobbs.

“The Passtronaut” has a new home in the Bay Area with a one-year deal with 750K in-game incentives. Dobbs has been a fan favorite in the NFL since his impressive performance back in Week 17 of 2022 against the Jaguars. He had to fill in for an injured Ryan Tannehill and only had a few days to prepare for the game. Although the Titans ended up losing and missing the playoffs, Dobbs’ performance was good enough to land him a spot on the Cleveland roster the following year. He was later traded to the Cardinals in the offseason, where he filled in for Kyler Murray for 8 games and went 1-7 as a starter.

After Kirk Cousins suffered an Achilles injury, the Vikings traded for Dobbs, despite his previous failures in Arizona. Dobbs was once again called upon to play meaningful NFL snaps just days after joining the Vikings when Jaren Hall suffered a concussion. He performed well in the first two games but struggled in the next two, leading to a 2-2 record as a starter. Head Coach Kevin O’Connell ultimately decided to replace Dobbs due to poor quarterback play and boneheaded turnovers.

Dobbs will need an injury to get real playing time in San Francisco, but it is nothing we haven’t seen before.
