Talks of the New York Giants having a lock on Jaxson Dart have intensified, the team recently reported to Dan Graziano of ESPN that they prefer Dart as their QB.
Jaxson Dart rises as Shedeur Sanders falls. If the New York Giants actions follow the breadcrumbs, the two prospects have now potentially flipped in the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft. New York has the 3rd overall pick, which is about right for a franchise quarterback, and they are coming off a disasterpiece of a season with their QB room. Nobody is allowed to be surprised if they stay put and select Dart. This could also play out in other ways though: the Saints have been reportedly targeting Dart at pick 9, which would open the possibility for New York to trade down to picks 4-8 and still draft him. Or they could copycat the Houston Texans, select a more prudent player at 3 and trade back in to a top 8 pick for Dart.
GM Joe Schoen has not inspired confidence in strategic decision making or negotiations, selecting Dart to sit behind Russell Wilson (Or Jameis Winston) for a year might be the only way him and his coaching staff cling on to their jobs into next year. Given what we currently know, a very likely outcome is they stay put at 3 and select Dart — but I can also easily see them getting completely fleeced in a trade. I personally believe Jaxson Dart has what it takes, and its fun comparing him to former Ole Miss and NY Giants legend Eli Manning. However, if Dart face plants, we’ll remember the Giants passing on JJ McCarthy and Michel Penix with pick 6 in the 2024 draft for years to come.
