Nick Chubb
Houston Losing Chubb

Reports out of Houston indicate that veteran running back Nick Chubb will not return to the Texans in 2026 and will test the market.

The Houston Texans will be adding to their running back room this offseason as 31-year-old veteran Nick Chubb will be heading to free agency looking for a new home. Chubb finished the season with 506 yards and three touchdowns on 122 carries. Chubb was signed to be the backup to Joe Mixon, but an injury placed him atop the depth chart, ultimately losing the gig to rookie Woody Marks.

With a strong free-agent group that includes Breece Hall and Kenneth Walker, the Texans will look to sign a big-name player this offseason or address needs through the draft, they have nine picks in the 2026 draft. In their loss to the Patriots, the Texans looked one-dimensional. Woody Marks couldn’t establish the run to take pressure off CJ Stroud, who threw four interceptions. Joe Mixon is still under contract, but has a medical condition that never improved. General Manager Nick Caserio commented on Mixon, “He didn’t jump off a building. He wasn’t doing anything irresponsible. It was a freak thing.” So, no one really knows the story, but it’s safe to say it’ll be Marks and another piece leading the Texans’ backfield in 2026.
