Detroit Lions backup quarterback Hendon Hooker is off to a great start to training camp.
Detroit Lions backup quarterback Hendon Hooker is “having a great start” to training camp. He has reportedly been decisive and fitting the ball into tight windows. The 2023 third round pick was always a developmental project coming out of Tennessee but after a “red shirt” rookie season recovering from a knee injury and developing on the bench, he appears to be making strides in the early goings of training camp.
The Lions gave Jared Goff a four year extension earlier this offseason so the path for Hooker to become a regular starter just isn’t there. Goff certainly earned his new deal with his play in 2023 leaving Hooker’s ceiling in Detroit as a backup. This report is a great update for the Lions who look to have security behind Goff, but doesn’t change anything for Hooker from a fantasy stand point. He will only see meaningful snaps in the event of a Jared Goff injury.
