David Montgomery Set to Return in Divisional Round Against Commanders
3 weeks ago

Detroit Lions: Sonic and Knuckles are back.

Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery is back in action just in time for the playoffs. After initially fearing a season-ending knee injury in Week 15, Montgomery is poised to make his return to the field on Saturday for the Lions’ Divisional Round matchup against the Washington Commanders.

Montgomery, who sustained an MCL injury in a shootout loss to the Buffalo Bills, had initially feared his season was over. However, after consulting with multiple medical professionals, he chose a rehab-based approach over surgery, hoping to return for the postseason.

On Tuesday, the Lions listed Montgomery as a full participant in practice, signaling he’s ready for the intense action ahead. The news is a major boost for Detroit’s offense, with Montgomery expected to play a key role in the run game as they look to advance further in the playoffs.

“It’s refreshing,” Montgomery said in an interview with ESPN’s Eric Woodyard. “Kind of to be back in the position to where I can help the team, yeah, I missed it, so happy to be back.”

With Montgomery back, the Lions’ offensive line will likely lean on the hard-nosed back to carry the load against Washington, making his return one of the most eagerly anticipated storylines of the weekend.
