Chris Olave
Saints Exercise Fifth-Year Option on Chris Olave
2 weeks ago

The New Orleans Saints are picking up Chris Olave’s fifth-year option for $15.493M.

Olave is set to make just north of $15M in what will be his fifth season with the Saints and final year of his rookie contract. Olave missed the second half of 2024 with his 5th recorded concussion dating back to 2020 when he was with Ohio State. Despite his serious health concerns, accepting the 24-year-old’s rookie option is a no brainer for New Orleans who needs offensive weapons in the worst way.

Olave posted consecutive top 25 fantasy finishes to start his career. Last season he topped 80 yards in 4 of his 7 full games with inconsistent quarterback play. Fantasy owners should still expect the Saints to add to the position during the draft, possibly with their 9th overall pick.

More concerning for Olave’s immediate future is Derek Carr’s lingering shoulder concerns. With how Spencer Rattler looked in relief last year, maybe the team looks to take Shedeur Sanders or Jaxon Dart in the first over a receiver. Either way, Olave is a dynasty hold (unless you can get value) and should be drafted with severe caution in redraft and best ball leagues.
