New Orleans Saints QB Derek Carr retired from the NFL due to his shoulder injury.
The New Orleans Saints finally got clarity when Derek Carr announced his retirement from the NFL. About a month earlier, reports surfaced that Derek Carr was expected to miss the 2025 NFL season due to a shoulder injury that surfaced in March. However, Derek Carr has opted to not have surgery and instead retire from the NFL.
Carr played for 9 years with the Raiders before starting 27 games over two seasons with the Saints. Carr missed games at the end of the 2024 season due to the same shoulder injury that would eventually lead to his retirement.
Carr will reportedly still retain his $10 M signing bonus as a result of a contract restructure. Carr’s retirement will also benefit the Saints’ salary cap situation, saving them approximately $30M.
Expect 2nd round rookie QB Tyler Shough to get the first crack at the Saints starting position.
