New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles tendon on the first drive with his new team and will miss the entire 2023 season.
On just his fourth snap from scrimmage with his new team. the 40-year-old veteran’s cleat got stuck in the turf at MetLife Stadium and the rest is history. Rodgers was carried off the field and onto the cart before completing a single pass for the Jets. His 2023 season is over.
Zach Wilson stepped into backup duties and while the Jets got the victory, it was despite Wilson’s play. The former second-overall pick in the 2021 draft looked exactly like the QB the Jets have been terrified to play. A circus catch by Garrett Wilson in the end zone helped Zach Wilson get to 14 of 21 for 140 yards, 1 TD, and 1 INT on just over 5 air yards per attempt against the Bills. Once the severity of Rodgers’ injury was confirmed, Head Coach Robert Saleh said Zach Wilson will be the Jets starter for the rest of the season. However, according to The Atheltic’s Dianna Russini, the Jets are already rumored to be reaching out to veteran QBs for help.
