Deebo Samuel’s time in San Francisco may be nearing an end, as the team is expected to explore trading him this offseason, according to Ian Rapoport.
For the second straight offseason, the San Francisco 49ers are rumored to trade Deebo Samuel. The dynamic wideout regressed last season, accounting for just 806 total yards and 4 touchdowns in 15 games, over 300 yards less than his output in 2023, and with 8 fewer touchdowns in the same amount of games.
A trade makes sense as the 49er’s paid Brandon Aiyuk a lot of money in 2024 and Jauan Jennings emerged as their potential WR-1. With Ricky Pearsall flashing his 1st round talent towards the end of the year and George Kittle’s sustained dominance, it seems the team could more than afford to move off of a player who looked like he was ready to move on himself.
Deebo will be 29 for the entirety of next season, and there should be at least a few teams interested in acquiring his Swiss-army-knife skill set. The Broncos, Commanders, and Steelers have been linked to him already. The Chargers are an intriguing team to watch to pair him with Ladd McConkey and mad scientist Jim Harbaugh.
Whatever conversations, if any, the 49ers have with other teams are most likely months away. Trading their star receiver before June 1st would contribute an additional $15.2 million worth of dead money toward their 2025 salary cap.
