The San Francisco 49ers are currently signaling that they intend to keep quarterback Mac Jones on their roster for the 2026 season, rather than trading him this offseason.  The feeling around the team being reported by multiple insiders is that Jones will stay as Brock Purdy’s backup, preserving the depth and continuity of the quarterback room heading into next year.

Mac Jones made eight starts in 2025 season, going 5-3 as the starter and keeping the 49ers competitive.  There has been chatter that other teams could be interested in Jones or that San Francisco could drive up his trade value, but the current stance is defensive only a very high draft price would even make the team consider dealing him.  Jones is also on a cheap two-year deal, which was signed last offseason.
