Next, Chris Nalls is back with a 2025 NFL Draft Prospect Profile for presumed No. 1 pick, Cam Ward.
The 2025 NFL Draft quarterback class is weaker than past classes. However, a few quarterbacks are franchise difference-makers. Today, we will explore former Miami Hurricane quarterback Cam Ward and his dynasty prospect profile. We will highlight his strengths, weaknesses, and dynasty value. We will also be giving you his quarterback compression. Ward is undoubtedly the number one quarterback in this year’s class, and it’s not close. Let’s take a look at his Player Profile.
Player Profile
Cam Ward stands 6-2 and weighs 219 pounds, and he moves like a magician out of the pocket. At Miami, Ward was phenomenal, finishing with 4,313 passing yards and 39 passing touchdowns. His completion percentage was 67.2 in 2024. On top of his passing success, Ward also finished with 204 rushing yards in his final year at Miami. Ward has never finished a season below 60 percent completion percentage and has only thrown double-digit interceptions once, in 2021.
Ward is a franchise quarterback, so the mock drafts consistently have him mocked as the Titans’ number one overall pick. The NFL’s style of play at the quarterback position is faster and more mobile, and Ward brings those attributes to the table. His arm strength and elasticity allow him to make every throw in the book- short, intermediate, or profound. Ward has the velocity and touch. He thrives outside the pocket and can extend plays. The former Miami Hurricane progressed as a pocket passer. Ward operated with more excellent command and decisiveness as his college career progressed. Let’s take a look at his strengths and weaknesses below.
Strengths
- Strong Arm: Capable of making every throw on the field.
- Vision: Sees the field well, making wise decisions.
- Mobility: Can escape pressure and extend plays.
- Accuracy: Consistent completion percentage.
- Instinctive Playmaker: Natural ability to make big plays.
Ward is a true leader, and his competitiveness makes him ideal for any NFL team. Many teammates have also applauded his work ethic and ability to rally the team behind him. Ward also has a lot of poise under center, making him an ideal 1.01 of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Weaknesses
- Throws off the Back Foot: This can lead to mistakes under pressure.
- Sidearm Throwing Motion: May affect trajectory on certain throws.
While Ward has tremendous upside, he is not flawless. His gunslinger mentality leads to risky decisions. He is prone to forcing some throws into coverage and has a habit that could inflate his interceptions by not throwing to the checkdown. Fumbling has been an issue for Ward as well. While this is fixable, it is a little concerning. Ward will sometimes drift under pressure instead of stepping up into the pocket. His deep ball is also a slight knock on him, especially for a quarterback with arm strength.
Quarterback Comparison
After watching Cam Ward’s film, he draws similarities to former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. Big, tall, strong, and yet moves agilely outside the pocket. Both share the arm talent and toughness as well. Both started at smaller colleges, while Ward ended up at the University of Miami.
The underdog story for both Ward and Rothlisberger is what makes them both resilient. Both quarterbacks had raw talent coming out of college, and whatever team drafts Ward will be getting a true franchise quarterback.
Dynasty Outlook
Everyone knows that you can never have too many quarterbacks in Superflex dynasty leagues. Ward is this year’s prime target at the position. He will be a plug-and-play quarterback in year one. His ability to rush alone puts him to such a high standard. He is currently being selected at the 1.02 through 1.04 picks in dynasty mock drafts. He will be a late first-round pick in one quarterback league—confidently draft Ward. Cam Ward screams QB1 potential. A few flaws must be polished, but he is worth the gamble.
