Zach Ertz Tops Century Mark In Loss

The Washington Commanders fell to the Denver Broncos 27-26 in overtime, as tight end Zach Ertz topped 100 receiving yards.

Zach Ertz recorded his first 100 yard receiving game of the season as he secured 10 receptions for 106 yards. Quarterback Marcus Mariota threw 50 times for 294 yards, two scores and one interception, he added 55 yards rushing.

Terry McLaurin made his presence felt in his first game in over a month, grabbing seven passes for 96 yards and a touchdown. On the ground Chris Rodriguez shouldered the load, taking 11 carries for 41 yards and a score.

Ertz remains a solid if unremarkable tight end option, showing what his ceiling can look like in this game, when McLaurin is healthy he’s a solid wide receiver two and Rodriguez appears to have put a stranglehold on the backfield work in Washington.

Marcus Mariota to Start Sunday For the Commanders
2 months ago

Washington Commanders star quarterback Jayden Daniels will miss Sunday’s game versus the Raiders.

Commanders head coach Dan Quinn said that veteran quarterback Marcus Mariota will get the start in place of the injured Jayden Daniels. This move comes with little surprise, however there was small hope that Daniels could make a late attempt towards starting this week.

Mariota will face the Las Vegas Raiders at home in what should be a good matchup for fantasy football. After getting pushed around by the Green Bay Packers defense, Mariota will look to get Terry McLaurin going after a slow start. Expect Zach Ertz to get plenty of target share while Deebo Samuel continues to display his diverse skill set.

Fantasy managers who can do a 1:1 replacement should see a decent opportunity for limited dropoff for just this week. Mariota has rushing ability to pop for at least 1 good game in Daniels’ absence. Should this injury linger into multi-week territory, then there could be some major fantasy ramifications.

Zach Ertz Impressing in Commanders' Off-Season Activites
1 year ago

Recently signed TE Zach Ertz has been a standout in off-season activities according to reports.

Despite coming off a season-ending quadriceps injury, Zach Ertz has been impressive this Summer. Ben Standig of The Athletic noted in particular Ertz was faster than expected at the age of 33. He is set to compete with Ben Sinnott and Cole Turner for playing time in a new look Washington offense.

While Ertz is far past his prime, he could still have a fantasy impact in 2024. He still soaked up plenty of targets from Murray last year and could be in a similar situation with Jayden Daniels this season. Nonetheless, Ertz is a fringe TE2 at best and will only be valuable in TE Premium formats or during bye weeks.

Zach Ertz Signs With the Washington Commanders
1 year ago

The Washington Commanders have signed Zach Ertz to a one-year deal

Zach Ertz has signed a one-year contract worth up to $5 million with the Washington Commanders. After being released by the Cardinals midway through last season, Ertz signed with the Lions in January. He ultimately didn’t appear in a game for Detroit through their playoff run.

Ertz’s best days are clearly behind him; however, he still garnered a significant number of targets last season. That led to him being one of the least efficient tight ends in football, and why the Cardinals released him. Nonetheless, with the Commanders quarterback situation set to improve Ertz should still be rostered in most dynasty leagues. A top 12 season isn’t within his range of outcomes, but he could be servicable in deeper leagues and during bye weeks in 2024.

Lions Add TE Zach Ertz

The Detroit Lions have added former Cardinals TE Zach Ertz to practice squad.

The Detroit Lions held off the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday to advance to the NFC Championship game, but second string TE Brock Wright was injured in the contest.  With Wright injured, they are adding former Cardinals TE Zach Ertz to their practice squad in hope to elevate him to help the active roster for the Lions’ playoff run.

Zach Ertz was released by the Cardinals earlier this season.  He hasn’t played since week 7, so this move is to help put depth behind Sam LaPorta, who has been playing with an injured knee.

TE Zach Ertz Released by AZ Cardinals

Veteran TE Zach Ertz has asked for release from Arizona and his wishes have been fulfilled.

Zach Ertz, the 33-year-old tight end, has been officially released from the Arizona Cardinals. Ertz had requested his release to have a chance to play for a Super Bowl contender. This decision makes sense for both parties involved. Trey McBride, the young tight end, has taken over Ertz’s playing time in Arizona, effectively making Ertz a cheerleader. With Ertz not contributing to the team and the Cardinals sitting at a record of 2-10, there is little left for them to play for except pride.

Both parties have agreed to part ways, allowing McBride to have a full chance to develop into a fantasy star during the remainder of the season, and giving Zach Ertz an opportunity to contribute to a contender.

Ertz has been on IR since late October and has not played a single snap for the Cardinals since then.  He concludes his time in 2023 in Arizona with 27 catches for 187 yards and 1 touchdown.
